Speaking to Thanh Nien newspaper , musician The Bao said he has been familiar with the image of Vietnamese People's Army soldiers since childhood. “At 12 years old, I was adopted by the regiment. At 16, I joined the local guerrilla forces. At 17, I moved to the North with the Military Arts Troupe of Military Region V. After that, I also taught and trained in the military environment, and went on field trips to border areas and islands… Therefore, the image of the soldier is an endless source of inspiration for my musical compositions,” the musician said.
Composer The Bao has included 12 selected works about soldiers in the program.
Among hundreds of songs about soldiers, composer The Bao selected 12 works to introduce to the audience in the program. He shared that the image of Uncle Ho's soldiers, from wartime to peacetime, is incredibly endearing and close to the people. The music program includes choral pieces and several songs about soldiers such as: Returning to Truong Son, Sending the Wind to Carry Fragrance, Marching Song of the Army Academy, Midnight, Heroic Vietnamese Air Force, Chrysanthemum Season, Marching Song of Young Soldiers in the Eastern Region …
Composer The Bao, whose full name is Tran The Bao, was born on August 22, 1937, in Binh Duong (Binh Son District, Quang Ngai Province), into a family with a tradition in literature and art. His father was the poet Tran Tat To, and his older brother was the poet Te Hanh. Throughout his career, composer The Bao was considered a multi-talented individual, composing songs, instrumental music, writing books on music theory, and also participating in teaching. He earned his doctorate in musicology and was appointed associate professor in 1991. He was awarded the Second Class Labor Medal in 2004. In 2017, he received the State Prize.
