Enriching ourselves and our homeland.
Once a poor rural area, Van Ninh commune (now Mong Cai 1 ward) has flourished thanks to the efforts of farmers like Mr. Bui Van Trinh, owner of a nearly 7-hectare aquaculture farm following VietGAP standards. Determined to get rich in this challenging land, he invested in high-tech whiteleg shrimp farming, gradually building a brand of clean agricultural products. Mr. Trinh said: “Only serious work and systematic production can hope for sustainable results. I always believe that my success must be linked to creating jobs for the people and contributing to the transformation of my homeland.” Currently, Mr. Trinh's farm generates a profit of over 1.8 billion VND per year, creating jobs for more than 20 local workers with an average salary of 9 million VND per person per month.
Mr. Trinh also actively participates in social work. He has supported 7 policy-beneficiary households with housing, 11 near-poor and disadvantaged households with production capital; contributed hundreds of millions of VND to the construction of new rural areas, becoming one of the outstanding examples in the locality in the movement "Farmers competing in excellent production and business, uniting to help each other get rich and sustainably reduce poverty".
In Uong Bi ward, Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Phuong, Deputy Director of Phuong Thuy Production and Trading Co., Ltd., is a shining example in the development of high-tech agriculture . In 2019, she boldly invested in a closed-loop system for producing Cordyceps sinensis according to modern standards, developing 10 lines of high-quality medicinal products. To date, 4 of the company's Cordyceps sinensis products have achieved OCOP 4-star status, bringing the Phuong Thuy brand to a wider audience.
“I didn’t choose the easy path, but sought to do agriculture using technology and knowledge. Every product I create must be the culmination of my dedication and responsibility,” Ms. Phuong said. With stable revenue, she creates jobs for more than 30 permanent workers and nearly 20 seasonal workers, contributing to raising the income of local people.
Without owning a modern factory or high-tech equipment, Mr. Vu Minh Thuong (Dong Giua village, Hoanh Bo ward) started his business in a very traditional agricultural way – growing pear guava and green pomelo on 1.1 hectares of hilly land, cultivating organically, and applying an automatic irrigation system. His dedication and systematic farming mindset have helped the Toan Phu Agricultural and Forestry Cooperative (10 members), where he is the Director, achieve a revenue of 4-5 billion VND per year, creating stable jobs for 10 workers with an income of 6-7 million VND per person per month.
"You can grow anything, but the most important thing is to do it cleanly, sustainably, and responsibly. Farmers now not only need to be hardworking, but also need to learn, connect with the market, and build a brand," Mr. Thuong shared.
Standing alongside farmers
Over the years, the movement of farmers competing to excel in production and business has truly permeated the lives of tens of thousands of members and farmers in the province. In the past five years, the entire province has seen 81,100 households achieve the title of "Excellent Farmer in Production and Business" at various levels, out of nearly 308,800 households that registered for the competition. Increasingly, many millionaire farmers are emerging, becoming economic pillars of their localities and strongly spreading the spirit of entrepreneurship within the community.
The movement has truly become a driving force in changing production mindsets, creating momentum to promote linkages, apply science and technology, and enhance the value of agricultural products. Notably, successful farming households have become the core force in supporting poor and near-poor households to develop their economy, disseminating techniques through "hands-on" and "farmers teaching farmers" methods.
In collaboration with its members and farmers, the provincial-level Farmers' Association has organized many practical activities: transferring advanced technologies, building model projects, organizing thematic workshops, market connection seminars, and guiding the development of OCOP products... Many local Farmers' Associations have organized visits for farmers to learn from exemplary production and business models to apply to their own production.
By 2025, the provincial Farmers' Association aims to have over 62,000 households registered for emulation, with over 34,000 households achieving the title of excellent farmer in production and business. According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet Hanh, Chairwoman of the provincial Farmers' Association: To deepen the movement, the provincial Farmers' Association maintains and expands capital creation channels through the Farmers' Support Fund and policy credit programs, aiming to support members and farmers. Simultaneously, it focuses on guiding and advising farmers on developing organic, green and clean ecological agricultural production, applying high technology in a way that strengthens chain linkages, increases added value and economic efficiency of OCOP products; developing collective economic models, cooperatives, and cooperative groups; and proactively supporting, sharing, and assisting member households in difficult circumstances with capital, materials, and technology.
