Enrich yourself and your country
Once a poor rural area, Van Ninh commune (now Mong Cai 1 ward) has prospered thanks to the efforts of farmers like Mr. Bui Van Trinh, owner of a nearly 7-hectare aquaculture farm following VietGAP standards. Determined to get rich on this difficult land, he invested in high-tech white-leg shrimp farming, gradually building a brand of clean agricultural products. Mr. Trinh said: "Only by working seriously and producing methodically can we hope to have sustainable results. I always keep in mind that my success must be linked to jobs for the people, to changes in my hometown." Currently, Mr. Trinh's farm brings in a profit of over 1.8 billion VND each year, creating jobs for more than 20 local workers with an average salary of 9 million VND/person/month.
Mr. Trinh also actively participates in social work. He supports 7 households with housing policies, 11 near-poor households and households with difficulties in production capital; contributes hundreds of millions of VND to build new rural areas, becoming one of the typical examples of the locality in the movement "Farmers compete in production, good business, unite to help each other get rich and reduce poverty sustainably".
In Uong Bi Ward, Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai Phuong, Deputy Director of Phuong Thuy Production and Trading Company Limited, is a shining example in developing high-tech agriculture . In 2019, she boldly invested in a closed cordyceps production system according to modern standards, developing 10 lines of high-class medicinal products. Up to now, 4 cordyceps products of the Company have achieved 4-star OCOP, bringing the Phuong Thuy brand far and wide.
“I did not choose the easy path, but found a way to do agriculture with technology and knowledge. Every product I make must be the crystallization of passion and responsibility,” said Ms. Phuong. With stable revenue, she creates jobs for more than 30 regular workers and nearly 20 seasonal workers, contributing to increasing the income of local people.
Not owning a modern or high-tech factory, Mr. Vu Minh Thuong (Dong Giua village, Hoanh Bo ward) started his business in a very agricultural way - growing guava and green-skinned grapefruit on 1.1 hectares of hilly land, cultivating organically, applying an automatic irrigation system. His dedication and methodical farming mindset have helped Toan Phu Agricultural and Forestry Cooperative (10 members), of which he is the Director, achieve a revenue of 4-5 billion VND/year, creating stable jobs for 10 workers, with an income of 6-7 million VND/person/month.
“You can grow any kind of tree, but the most important thing is to grow it cleanly, sustainably, and responsibly. Farmers today not only have to work hard, but also have to learn, connect with the market, and build a brand,” Mr. Thuong shared.
Accompanying farmers
Over the past years, the movement of farmers competing in good production and business has really penetrated the lives of tens of thousands of members and farmers in the province. In the past 5 years, the whole province has had 81,100 households achieving the title of good production and business farmers at all levels/nearly 308,800 households registering to compete. More and more billionaire farmers are emerging, becoming the economic pillars of the locality, strongly spreading the spirit of entrepreneurship in the community.
The movement has truly become a push to change production thinking, creating a driving force to promote linkages, apply science and technology, and increase the value of agricultural products. Notably, good production and business farming households have become the core force in supporting poor and near-poor households to develop the economy, popularizing techniques in the form of "hand-holding" and "farmers teaching farmers".
Accompanying members and farmers, the provincial Farmers' Associations have organized many practical activities: Transferring technical advances, building pilot models, organizing seminars, market connection talks, guiding the development of OCOP products... Farmers' Associations in many localities have organized for farmers to visit and study typical good production and business models to apply in production practices.
By 2025, the provincial Farmers' Association at all levels aims to have over 62,000 households register for the competition, of which over 34,000 households will achieve the title of excellent farmer households. According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Tuyet Hanh, Chairwoman of the provincial Farmers' Association: In order for the movement to go deeper, the provincial Farmers' Association at all levels will maintain and expand capital creation channels through the Farmers' Support Fund and policy credit programs, to support members and farmers. At the same time, pay attention to guiding and advising farmers to develop organic agricultural production, green and clean ecology, applying high technology in the direction of strengthening chain linkages, increasing added value, economic efficiency of OCOP products; developing collective economic models, cooperatives, and cooperative groups; proactively supporting, sharing, and helping member households in difficult circumstances in terms of capital, materials, techniques, etc.
