Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu was born in 1966, hometown Phuoc Hiep commune, Cu Chi district, Ho Chi Minh City (old). He graduated from the University of Education, majoring in Mathematics, has a bachelor's degree in politics , a senior degree in political theory, and a doctorate in educational management.
He has worked inthe education and training sector of Ho Chi Minh City since September 1989. He has worked for a long time at the grassroots level, in many different positions, such as teacher; youth assistant; Vice Principal of Quang Trung High School; Principal of Trung Lap High School; Deputy Chief of Office of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City; Deputy Head, Head of Secondary School Department, Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City; Head of Organization and Personnel Department, Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City.
Since April 2014, Mr. Hieu has been appointed as Deputy Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City. At the 7th Congress of the Party Committee of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, term 2020-2025, Mr. Hieu was elected to hold the position of Secretary of the Party Committee of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City. Since August 2021, he has been appointed as Director of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City until now.

Implementing the policy of merging Ho Chi Minh City with Binh Duong and Ba Ria - Vung Tau provinces, the 3 Departments of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, Binh Duong, and Ba Ria - Vung Tau merged into the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City.
According to the plan, this new Department (including 3 regions: Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Binh Duong) is a specialized agency under the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and will receive the original status of the affiliated public service units and units under the state management authority of education of the Department of Education and Training of Ba Ria - Vung Tau and the Department of Education and Training of Binh Duong.
The organizational structure includes a director and deputy directors appointed by competent authorities according to regulations. Taking the organizational structure of Ho Chi Minh City Education and Training as the basis, after the merger, the Department was arranged into 10 departments including: Office, Inspection - Legal Department, Personnel Organization Department, Planning - Finance Department, Student Department, Quality Management Department, Preschool Education Department, General Education Department, Continuing Education - Vocational and University Department, and Non-public Educational Institution Management Department.
The new Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training will have 198 public service units, including 165 high schools and junior high schools, 2 specialized high schools, 2 gifted sports schools and other units.
In the immediate future, the staffing and number of employees of the departments under the Department and the public service units under the 3 regional departments will remain the same; a roadmap will be developed to streamline the staffing, with a minimum of 20% of the number of civil servants and public employees receiving salaries from the state budget.
Thus, the Board of Directors of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City includes Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Director; Deputy Directors Duong Tri Dung, Nguyen Bao Quoc, Le Thuy My Chau, Huynh Le Nhu Trang, Nguyen Thi Nhat Hang, Nguyen Van Phong, Truong Hai Thanh, Tran Thi Ngoc Chau, Nguyen Ke Toai.
The facilities are expected to remain intact. The Department's staff and workers will be assigned to work in three areas to ensure that work is completed promptly and continuously.
