On the afternoon of September 6th, doctors and medical staff at the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center, Con Dao Special Zone, Ho Chi Minh City, successfully performed a laparoscopic appendectomy on a 36-year-old male patient residing in the Con Dao Special Zone due to an inflamed appendix. This was the first laparoscopic surgery of its kind performed in the area.
According to a representative from the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center, the patient was admitted with symptoms of pain in the right lower abdomen. After examination, tests, and ultrasound, doctors diagnosed the patient with acute appendicitis.
Dr. Ly Bao Duy from Binh Dan Hospital, who was on rotational assignment to the Con Dao Military-Civilian Medical Center, consulted remotely with the Board of Directors of Binh Dan Hospital and was instructed to perform surgery. With the modern endoscopic surgical system recently provided to the Center by the health sector, the surgery, performed at 4 PM that same day, proceeded smoothly and successfully.
This is one of the first concrete results of the rotating team of specialist doctors working in the Con Dao Special Zone, demonstrating an important step forward in improving the quality of medical examination and treatment for the people of Con Dao, helping to reduce the pressure of referrals to higher-level hospitals and providing timely emergency support right in the locality.
