On the morning of May 26th, the Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee Office announced that Mr. Ho Quang Buu, Vice Chairman in charge of the Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee, had signed a document addressed to the Party Committee of the Provincial People's Committee requesting approval for several issues related to the Project on the reorganization of district and commune-level administrative units in the province for the period 2023-2025. According to the Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee, for the district level, the Provincial People's Committee is developing a Project on the reorganization of district-level administrative units for the period 2023-2025 (referred to as the Project) which will merge the two districts of Que Son and Nong Son to establish a new district-level administrative unit.

Considering the proposal from the Department of Internal Affairs, the Provincial People's Committee requests the Party Committee of the Provincial People's Committee to seek the opinion of the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee and the Provincial Party Standing Committee on the name, office location, and personnel arrangement plan for the new administrative unit after the merger of the two districts. Specifically, after the merger, the Provincial People's Committee proposes to agree on the principle of naming the new administrative unit as Que Son District.
The name Que Son is in keeping with the historical and cultural traditions and aspirations of the people.
The reason is that this name meets the legal basis according to Resolution No. 35 of the Standing Committee of the National Assembly . In addition, Que Son District and Nong Son District share the same origin; the name Que Son has existed for a long time, is consistent with historical and cultural traditions, and the aspirations of the people.
The name Quế Sơn was chosen for the new administrative unit and was agreed upon by the People's Committees of Quế Sơn and Nông Sơn districts.
The Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee also stated that, based on initial public opinion surveys, the naming of the new administrative unit as Que Son District has received strong support from the people of Que Son and Nong Son Districts.
Following the merger, the People's Committee of Quang Nam province proposed that the administrative unit's headquarters be located at the current headquarters of Que Son district.
This proposal is based on the fact that, prior to 2008, before the separation of Que Son District to establish Nong Son District, the headquarters of the People's Committee of the former Que Son District was located in Dong Phu Town (Que Son District).
The merger of Que Son and Nong Son districts to form a district-level administrative unit as it was before 2008 (the old Que Son district) means that locating the offices of agencies in Dong Phu town, currently, is convenient for the majority of people in both districts to travel, work, and conduct transactions.
In addition, the administrative offices of Que Son District were newly built in 2022, basically ensuring the operation of the new administrative unit.
Previously, the Standing Committee of the Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee agreed on the principle of merging the entire natural area and population of Que Son District and Nong Son District to establish a new district-level administrative unit.
