SEA Games 33, December 11-12: Many Vietnamese swimmers advance to the finals to compete for medals.

In the qualifying rounds held on the morning of December 11th, many Vietnamese swimmers such as Pham Thanh Bao, Nguyen Kha Nhi, and Jeremie Luong excelled, securing their places in the finals to compete for medals.

At 9:45 AM, in swimming, Pham Thanh Bao finished third in the qualifying heat of the 100m breaststroke with a time of 1 minute 3.16 seconds.

At 9:35 AM, in swimming, 17-year-old female swimmer Nguyen Kha Nhi also qualified for the final of the 200m freestyle event, finishing the qualifying heat in 8th place.

At 9:25 AM, in swimming, French swimmer of Vietnamese descent, Jeremie Luong, completed her qualifying heat with a time of 23.01 seconds. With this performance, Jeremie Luong has qualified for the final to compete for a medal this evening.

It is known that in the two most recent consecutive SEA Games, this 25-year-old swimmer won bronze medals in the 50m freestyle event.

The highlight of today's competition is the athletics team's participation. Nguyen Thi Oanh will not compete in the women's 1,500m event, instead focusing on the 3,000m steeplechase, 5,000m, and 10,000m events. Hope may rest on Luong Duc Phuoc, who previously won two silver medals in the 800m and 1,500m at the 2023 SEA Games.

Meanwhile, swimming entered its second day of competition with a series of speed events such as the men's and women's 50m backstroke, men's 500m freestyle, women's 200m freestyle, men's 100m breaststroke, and women's 200m individual medley. Most notably, taking place at the very end of the evening was the men's 4x200m freestyle relay.

With their strong squad, Vietnam promises to continue creating an extremely exciting competition with Singapore in the men's relay swimming events. This is also likely to be the first event in which Huy Hoang wins a medal at this year's SEA Games.

Pham Thanh Bao is also expected to follow in Hung Nguyen's footsteps and win an individual gold medal in the 100m breaststroke. In the last two SEA Games, Thanh Bao has won four gold medals in the breaststroke events. In addition, athletes in canoeing, gymnastics, and martial arts are expected to continue bringing home more gold medals for Vietnam.

Today, Vietnam's two top male gymnasts, Nguyen Van Khanh Phong and Dang Ngoc Xuan Thien, will compete in the finals at 2:30 PM in their specialty event. Men's gymnastics is expected to bring home at least one gold medal for Vietnamese sports today.
