According to the plan, this year's campaign is expected to provide high-dose vitamin A to over 120,800 children aged 6 to 35 months, and weigh and measure nearly 156,000 children aged 0 to 59 months to assess their nutritional status and monitor their growth.
Specifically, children aged 6 to 11 months receive a single dose of 100,000 international units (IU), while children aged 12 to 35 months receive 200,000 IU. Vitamin A is also supplemented for children at risk of micronutrient deficiencies, children with conditions such as malnutrition, respiratory infections, or those who have recently recovered from measles, in accordance with the Ministry of Health 's guidelines.
At the vitamin A distribution point in Tan An ward, Ms. Tran Thi Phuong shared: "I have two grandchildren, and when I heard the station's announcement, I brought them here to get vitamin A. Children these days are very prone to nutrient deficiencies, so they need vitamin A to ensure they get enough nutrients."
Observations in various localities show that the campaign was meticulously organized. Health stations coordinated with local departments, agencies, and socio- political organizations to announce the vitamin A administration schedule, guide people, and provide manpower support at the distribution points.
According to Tran Thi Thuy Linh, head of the Tan An Ward Health Station's sub-station: "We are administering the first round of vitamin A to children aged 6 to 36 months, and coordinating the weighing and measuring of children. The sub-station is coordinating with the ward's departments, agencies, and organizations to ensure a synchronized implementation. It is expected that 100% of the children present will receive vitamin A on July 28th and 29th."
This campaign in Tay Ninh province aims to achieve a target of 98% or more of children aged 6 to 35 months in the locality receiving high-dose vitamin A; 98% of children under 5 years old being weighed and measured; and 100% of communes and wards organizing awareness campaigns on preventing and combating micronutrient deficiencies in children and mothers. Simultaneously, the province will promote the dissemination of 10 tips for proper nutrition through mass media to raise community awareness.
