What can we see from the record trade surplus figure of 2023?

In parallel with trade promotion, to develop export markets, the solutions that the Ministry of Industry and Trade will implement in the coming time include strengthening negotiations and signing new trade agreements, commitments, and linkages, signing FTAs ​​and trade agreements with other potential partners (UAE, MERCOSUR, etc.) to diversify markets, products, and supply chains.

Simultaneously, we will continue to support businesses in leveraging commitments in FTA agreements, especially the CPTPP, EVFTA, and UKVFTA, to boost exports through disseminating information on rules of origin and the issuance of certificates of origin, as well as opportunities and ways to take advantage of these agreements.

The Ministry of Industry and Trade will also coordinate with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to negotiate with China to open up more export markets for other Vietnamese fruits and vegetables such as: green pomelo, fresh coconut, avocado, pineapple, star apple, lemon, cantaloupe, etc. It will improve efficiency and regulate the speed of customs clearance for import and export goods at border gates between Vietnam and China, especially for seasonal agricultural and aquatic products; and accelerate the shift towards official export channels…

In 2024, the Ministry of Industry and Trade aims to increase total export turnover by over 6% compared to 2023; the trade balance will continue to have a surplus… With the solutions already set out, coupled with the efforts of businesses, and in the context of 2024 being predicted to be less difficult for import and export activities, it is expected that the achievements of foreign trade in 2024 will not only be impressive but also contribute even better to the sustainable growth of the economy .
