Billionaire Elon Musk has just decided to relocate SpaceX and X headquarters to Texas.
On July 15, California Governor Gavin Newsom signed into law a ban on school districts requiring teachers to notify parents when a student changes their gender identity or sexual orientation.
The new law reversed policies implemented by school districts that required teachers to notify parents if a student changed their name or personal pronoun, or when a student requested to use restrooms or showers, or participated in programs inappropriate for their natural gender.
"This is the last straw. Because of this law and other previous laws targeting families and companies, SpaceX will move its headquarters from Hawthrone (California) to Starbase (Texas)," billionaire Elon Musk wrote on his X account a day after the transgender law was enacted, according to AFP on July 17.
Billionaire Elon Musk supports Trump, pledging to spend $45 million per month.
Mr. Musk also announced that he is moving X from its headquarters in San Francisco (California) to Austin (Texas).
Previously, the American billionaire had moved Tesla's headquarters from Palo Alto in Silicon Valley to Austin, but still maintained its "engineering headquarters" in California.
In 2021, Musk, currently the world's richest person with a net worth of $274 billion as of July 10th, moved from California to Texas, a state that does not levy personal income tax.
A few days ago, the billionaire publicly endorsed Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump for the first time.
California voters traditionally support Democratic candidates, while Texas is considered one of the Republican Party's strongholds.
