General Secretary To Lam meets with the Chairman of the Senate and the Chairman of the House of Representatives of Belarus

(Chinhphu.vn) - On the afternoon of May 12 (local time), within the framework of a State visit to the Republic of Belarus, in the capital Minsk, General Secretary To Lam had a meeting with Chairwoman of the Council of the Republic (Senate) Natalya Kochanova, Chairman of the House of Deputies (Lower House) Igor Sergeyenko and leaders of the Communist Party and the Belarusian Party.

The leaders of the Belarusian Parliament warmly welcomed General Secretary To Lam and the high-level Vietnamese delegation, representing the heroic Vietnamese people, on their state visit to Belarus, coinciding with the solemn commemoration of important events in both countries, including the 80th anniversary of the victory over fascism and the 50th anniversary of the liberation of the South and national reunification. The Belarusian Parliament was honored to send a delegation led by Vice Chairman of the House of Representatives V. Ipatov to attend the April 30th commemoration ceremony.

The leaders of the Belarusian Parliament congratulated the Vietnamese people on their achievements in national development and congratulated General Secretary To Lam on being awarded the Order of Friendship by President A. Lukashenko, demonstrating Belarus's recognition of the General Secretary's great contributions to bilateral relations.

The leaders of the Belarusian Parliament assessed General Secretary To Lam's visit as a historic one, and the agreements signed during the visit represent a new future for bilateral relations.

General Secretary To Lam expressed his pleasure at revisiting the beautiful country of Belarus in his new capacity, and was moved by the warm and sincere welcome from the leaders and people of Belarus, including the Parliament and political parties of Belarus. The General Secretary congratulated the Belarusian people on the achievements they have made in national development and enhancing their international standing.

The General Secretary emphasized that Vietnam always values ​​the traditional friendship with Belarus, established in 1957 when President Ho Chi Minh visited Belarus, and expressed gratitude for Belarus's sincere assistance to Vietnam's struggle for national liberation and reunification in the past, and to its development today.

General Secretary To Lam and leaders of the Belarusian Parliament agreed to bring bilateral relations into a new phase in a new era of development with concrete measures. In the spirit of the recently upgraded Strategic Partnership, and in the context of a world facing many complex changes, the leaders agreed to strengthen exchanges of delegations and contacts at all levels, especially at the high level; increase import and export turnover; and enhance cooperation in science and technology, education and training, culture, and tourism, with consideration of opening direct flights soon, promoting people-to-people exchanges, and further strengthening cooperation between localities.

Regarding parliamentary and party-to-party cooperation, both sides agreed to strengthen exchanges of delegations through parliamentary and party channels, enhance oversight of signed documents, especially the Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the Eurasian Economic Union; strengthen the exchange of information and experience in party work, legislative work, and parliamentary activities; enhance exchanges between specialized committees, friendship parliamentary groups, and young parliamentarians; and support each other at multilateral political party forums and inter-parliamentary forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) and the ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA), aiming towards joint initiatives at international parliamentary forums.

The General Secretary expressed his gratitude and hoped that the Belarusian Parliament would continue to create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community to live, study, and work in Belarus, making positive contributions to the development of Belarus and the traditional friendship between the two countries.

On this occasion, the Chairperson of the Council of the Republic, Natalya Kochanova, and the Chairperson of the House of Representatives, Igor Sergeyenko, extended their greetings and an invitation to the Chairman of the National Assembly, Tran Thanh Man, to visit Belarus soon. The General Secretary respectfully conveyed the greetings and invitation from the Chairman of the National Assembly, Tran Thanh Man, inviting Chairperson of the Council of the Republic, Natalya Kochanova, and Chairperson of the House of Representatives, Igor Sergeyenko, to visit Vietnam soon. The leaders of the Belarusian Parliament happily accepted the invitation.
