This achievement is a bright spot in the process of realizing the National Digital Transformation Strategy and the Digital Transformation Program of the Education Sector to 2025, with a vision to 2030. Education must be one step ahead, taking innovation and artificial intelligence (AI) as key driving forces to improve training quality and national competitiveness.
EDUtech Asia is founded and operated by Terrapinn - a prestigious international corporation specializing in events and awards in the fields of education and technology. This is one of the most prestigious awards in Asia - Pacific , annually gathering hundreds of initiatives from leading universities, research institutes and technology enterprises.
In the AI Innovation in Education category, candidates are evaluated based on the level of innovation, practical impact and scalability of AI application initiatives in teaching, learning and university administration.
In this race, BUV's "competitors" are all leading educational institutions in Asia such as Hong Kong Polytechnic University, currently in the top 100 universities in the world according to the QS World University Rankings 2025, Singapore Polytechnic, the leading educational institution in engineering training, Singapore University of Social Sciences (SUSS) - a member of the Singapore national university system, famous for its comprehensive digital transformation strategy, or Hong Kong City University, a public university highly appreciated for its e-learning applications.
BUV is notable not only for being the sole representative of Vietnam, but also for its different approach to AI. Instead of being reserved or prohibitive, the school considers AI an inevitable tool and pioneers in building a scientific assessment system to integrate transparency and responsibility in academia. It is this choice that has opened the journey for BUV to be honored in the category of AI Innovation in Education.
Since 2022, when the wave of Generative AI has exploded, BUV has built the AI Assessment Scale (AIAS) with a 5-level system that clearly defines the level of AI use in each exercise, from "no AI" to "fully AI". This approach helps both lecturers and students have a common reference framework, orienting the use of AI towards developing critical thinking and sustainable academic capacity. The initial results show clear effectiveness, after only one semester of application, the rate of AI-related violations decreased from 6.5% to 0, while the passing rate increased by more than 33% and the average score of the whole school increased by nearly 6%.
“We equip students with the digital tools to enter the global labor market, where AI is an indispensable tool, not a barrier. AI in particular and digital transformation in general is a process that requires rigorous investment and large financial resources, but BUV's initial success comes not only from infrastructure but also from cultural readiness, team determination and a targeted strategy,” emphasized Prof. Rick Bennett, Vice President and Vice President of BUV.
From an internal initiative, AIAS has quickly gained international recognition, applied in more than 300 universities around the world, translated into 27 languages and recommended by TEQSA (Australia) as a typical model of AI integration.
“AIAS was created to turn concerns into opportunities. The assessment scale not only protects academic integrity, but also helps students learn to accompany technology,” said Associate Professor Mike Perkins, Head of the BUV Research and Development Center, the initiator of AIAS.
BUV continues to expand its AI and digital technology ecosystem: From Codio, a cloud-based programming learning platform that integrates AI, chatbots that support students 24/7, to AI applications in grading and instant feedback. In parallel, the STIS student information management system uses cloud computing technology, the Campus Central application connects all school data to the LMS learning management system and cloud collaboration tools such as One Drive, Microsoft Teams, the WorldShare e-Services digital library with hundreds of thousands of international documents, or creative support platforms such as Imagine Explainer and GDevelop.
The fact that a Vietnamese university is included in the top Asian awards is a testament to the competitiveness and integration of the country’s education in the international education technology arena. With the vision of being positioned as the number one international university in the country and region, BUV not only aims to train more than 10,000 students and expand online learning in the next 5 years, but also aims to be a center of innovation, connecting Vietnam with global knowledge and educational standards.
