What do you see from Mr. Kim's decisions?

After winning the ASEAN Cup, coach Kim Sang Sik brought much hope when he called up more than a dozen new players to the Vietnamese national team in training sessions from March until now.

However, the reality is not as expected, " call a lot but use little " is the most accurate phrase to describe coach Kim Sang Sik's philosophy up to now.

Not many rookies are valued by coach Kim Sang Sik

In important matches or even against weak opponents like Nepal, the main frame of the Vietnamese team is still the familiar veteran faces. The rookies are either called up to "learn" or are given too little time to show their skills, not enough to create any competition.

Coach Kim Sang Sik can be understood, because the Korean strategist needs stability and experience from veterans to operate his philosophy in the safest way.

But unfortunately, that calculation seems to be going in the wrong direction. It is the veterans, the most trusted people, who are showing signs of "inertia".

The desire to contribute seems to have faded after many years of glory, not to mention that regional rivals are having strong changes in personnel, causing the domestic players in the Vietnamese national team to feel discouraged, especially after the heavy loss to Malaysia in the Asian Cup qualifiers.

"The mistakes" of Mr. Park Hang-seo

Coach Kim Sang Sik's somewhat excessive favoritism towards veterans at this time immediately reminds people of the final stage of Park Hang Seo's reign.

Coach Park Hang Seo and his players have created the most brilliant success in the history of Vietnamese football. However, his absolute trust and loyalty to a fixed squad for many years has become a fatal weakness.

And the aging is showing to be a problem that needs to be addressed by Mr. Kim Sang Sik.

As regional and continental rivals gradually figured out Vietnam’s playing style, Mr. Park could not keep up. The glorious core was thoroughly exploited, while the next generation was not given enough opportunities to mature and take on the responsibility.

As a result, everything gradually fell apart, and the Vietnamese team could not gain more glory like in the first period when coach Park Hang Seo first arrived.

Now, coach Kim Sang Sik seems to be walking the same path as he is faced with a group of unmotivated veterans, forcing him to resort to naturalized players.

And as said, if there is no change, it is very likely that Coach Kim Sang Sik's journey with Vietnamese football will only revolve around regional tournaments.

Of course, innovation is not a simple process, but it is a must if we want to succeed with Vietnamese football in the long term.
