UNDP: will pay attention to women and children in projects implemented in Binh Dinh

On September 23, the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Mission in Vietnam had a working session with Binh Dinh province on UNDP-funded projects.

Speaking at the meeting, Chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee Pham Anh Tuan said that UNDP is currently supporting the province to implement 4 projects.

The technical assistance project “Smart coastal communities adapting to climate change in Vietnam - Binh Dinh province” has been approved by the People's Committee of Binh Dinh province, meeting the conditions to carry out the next procedures. The project has 3 components implemented in some communes and wards of Quy Nhon city, Hoai Nhon town and Tuy Phuoc, Phu Cat, Phu My districts with a total capital of more than 37.2 billion VND, implementation period of 6 years, lasting until March 2030.

The pilot project of models for managing domestic solid waste and waste from the seafood industry to promote circular economy in Quy Nhon City has been implemented by the People's Committee of Quy Nhon City (project investor) with activities such as: Organizing workshops; purchasing tools and equipment to support 200 fishing boats participating in the model of collecting plastic waste from fishing boats to shore, building plastic waste collection houses, etc., meeting the requirements and purposes of the project.

The Vietnam - Korea Peace Village Project (KVPVP) invested by the Department of Planning and Investment is being implemented in 20 communes in Hoai Nhon town and the districts of Hoai An, Tay Son, Tuy Phuoc, Van Canh, An Lao. Currently, the investor has carried out the main activities of the project, such as: Supporting agricultural materials, improved rice cultivation techniques to adapt to climate change; completing the construction of 66 storm- and flood-resistant houses, 1 medical station and is implementing the construction of 6 medical stations in the localities, ensuring the set progress.

The project supports the implementation of the national action plan on ocean plastic waste in the context of green recovery after Covid-19 in Vietnam, with the Vietnam Administration of Seas and Islands ( Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment ) as the project owner, and the Department of Natural Resources and Environment as the focal agency in Binh Dinh. The estimated budget for implementing project activities in Binh Dinh is about 1 million USD. Currently, the Department of Natural Resources and Environment is continuing to coordinate with UNDP to complete the draft document to submit to the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment for project approval, as a basis for implementation.

UNDP Resident Representative in Vietnam Ramla Khalidi highly appreciated Binh Dinh’s efforts and determination in implementing UNDP-funded projects and pledged to closely coordinate with the province to successfully implement the projects. Ms. Ramla Khalidi said that UNDP will pay attention to women and children when implementing upcoming projects in Binh Dinh.
