On June 18th and 20th, 2024, in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi respectively, the University of Sydney officially introduced the University of Sydney Vietnam Institute, whose main mission is to conduct multidisciplinary research across various fields, including health, agriculture , arts, social sciences, business, etc., as well as to launch Net Zero initiatives aimed at creating a profound impact and contributing to the prosperity of both countries.
The University of Sydney Vietnam officially commenced operations with its main campus in Ho Chi Minh City and two offices in Hanoi and Can Tho.
Furthermore, at the Sydney-Vietnam Innovation Conference, university leaders, researchers, and scholars from Sydney and Vietnam gathered to discuss and strengthen partnerships in research, innovation, and creativity. The event also provided an opportunity for networking and interaction within the scientific community.
The Australian government and international donors have committed A$40-45 million in non-profit funding to the Institute. As a non-profit enterprise, all of the Institute's revenue will be used to invest in research activities in Vietnam.
The University of Sydney, the University of Sydney Vietnam, and Bach Mai Hospital have signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
Dr. Nguyen Ngo Quang, Acting Director of the Department of Science, Technology and Training, Ministry of Health, said that the establishment of the Institute will contribute to strengthening cooperation in scientific research and technological development, and innovation.
The University of Sydney Vietnam is expected to have enormous potential in fostering collaboration, innovation, and creativity, creating a positive impact not only in Vietnam but also beyond. With a commitment to strengthening global cooperation, the Institute will implement outstanding research projects with far-reaching societal impacts.
