Vietjet cooperates with Petrolimex to use SAF fuel, an important step in the green transformation journey of the aviation industry

Vietjet Air is a pioneer in using sustainable aviation fuel SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel) produced by Petrolimex Aviation in Vietnam on its flights.

At the signing ceremony of the cooperation agreement between Vietjet and Petrolimex Aviation recently held in Ho Chi Minh City with the participation of Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam Uong Viet Dung, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Petrolimex Pham Van Thanh, General Director of Petrolimex Aviation Nguyen Van Hoc, General Director of Vietjet Dinh Viet Phuong, Permanent Deputy General Director of Vietjet To Viet Thang, Deputy General Director, CFO of Vietjet Ho Ngoc Yen Phuong and partners and guests.

For the first time in Vietnam, Petrolimex Aviation has blended and supplied the first 1,200 m³ of SAF for Vietjet flights, marking an important milestone in the production and use of sustainable aviation fuel in Vietnam. Petrolimex Aviation also delivered a Proof of Sustainability (PoS) in accordance with the ISCC EU standard, committing to ensuring that this fuel meets strict international standards on sustainability and CO₂ emission reduction.

Director of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, Mr. Uong Viet Dung congratulated the cooperation between the two units.

According to Director of the Civil Aviation Authority Uong Viet Dung, the launch of the SAF product is not only of commercial significance but also of long-term strategic significance, creating the premise for building a sustainable domestic SAF supply chain; meeting the requirements of the international market; encouraging cooperation between airlines, fuel suppliers, management agencies and financial institutions to expand the scale of SAF use in Vietnam.

Speaking at the event, Member of the Government Party Committee, Party Secretary, Chairman of Petrolimex Board of Directors Pham Van Thanh said: "Petrolimex proactively invested, researched, and mastered SAF blending technology at Nha Be Petroleum Depot, and is also the first unit in Vietnam to import SBC - hydrocarbon synthesized from biological/renewable materials used to produce SAF. This success demonstrates the Group's strong commitment to the green transformation journey, accompanying the Government, airlines and the whole society towards sustainable development".

Mr. To Viet Thang - Vietjet's Standing Deputy General Director said: "Today's agreement between Vietjet and Petrolimex Aviation demonstrates the commitment of the two businesses and the aviation industry towards green and sustainable development goals. With a total of 576 modern aircraft ordered, Vietjet's green fleet using SAF will contribute to significantly reducing emissions, protecting the environment, pioneering the use of clean fuel, contributing to realizing the country's aspirations for development and growth in the era of global integration".

Previously, on October 17, 2024, Vietjet cooperated with Petrolimex Aviation to conduct the first two flights to be refueled with SAF in Vietnam. Produced from renewable and sustainably sourced materials such as used cooking oil, agricultural by-products, wood biomass, urban waste, etc., SAF sustainable aviation fuel can help reduce 80% of carbon emissions compared to traditional fuels, meet strict international aviation standards, and be used safely in commercial operations.
