Ensuring a balance between supply and demand for essential goods.
In early October 2025, the People's Committee of Dong Nai province issued Plan No. 119/KH-UBND on ensuring a balance between supply and demand of essential goods to serve the Lunar New Year 2026 and to prevent and control natural disasters and epidemics in Dong Nai province. The plan will be implemented until the end of September 2026.
The plan aims to ensure a balance between the supply and demand of goods, contributing to social welfare work, especially during the last months of the year, holidays, Tet (Lunar New Year), and in situations of natural disasters or epidemics (if any), meeting the needs of people in the area for essential goods.
Simultaneously, promote the development of the network and diversification of sales outlets to ensure essential goods are distributed to consumers conveniently and quickly; focusing on developing sales outlets in traditional markets, industrial zones, worker accommodation areas, and remote areas within the province. Expand the range of goods and sales outlets associated with the "Vietnamese People Prioritize Using Vietnamese Goods" campaign. At the same time, strengthen cooperation between provinces and cities in investment activities, trade connections, improving productivity and product quality, and expanding markets.
During the Lunar New Year of the Horse 2026, it is predicted that purchasing power will increase by approximately 5% compared to the previous year's Lunar New Year and increase further.
20-25% of normal daily demand, concentrated in the days leading up to Tet (Lunar New Year). The quantity and quality of goods will be guaranteed as manufacturers have already planned their Tet preparations since the end of the second quarter and the beginning of the third quarter of 2025.
Nguyen Danh Thinh, Director of Phuong Lam Trade and Service Cooperative, the unit managing Phuong Lam Market (Phu Lam commune, Dong Nai province), shared: The Market Management Board has encouraged traders to proactively plan and stockpile goods for Tet (Lunar New Year) early on. Many traders have connected and worked with Tet goods suppliers since the beginning of October 2025. The supply of goods for the upcoming Tet is expected to ensure sufficient supply to meet the shopping needs of people during Tet 2026, especially essential items.
Regarding the balance of supply and demand for essential goods during the Lunar New Year of 2026 (Year of the Horse), the Provincial People's Committee's plan covers 13 groups of goods, including: rice, pork, poultry, eggs, seafood, vegetables and fruits, ready-to-eat packaged foods, canned processed foods, spices, sauces, cooking oil, confectionery, gasoline, etc.
Supermarkets and markets proactively connect with suppliers early on.
With the Lunar New Year 2026 being about 1.5 months away from the Gregorian New Year, many supermarkets and traditional markets have proactively developed plans to ensure a balanced supply of goods to serve the peak shopping season at the end of the year and during the Tet holiday, meeting consumer demand.
According to Ho Duc Tan, representative of the Management Board of Dau Giay Wholesale Market for Agricultural Products (Dau Giay commune, Dong Nai province): Traders in the market have planned to stockpile goods to serve the Tet holiday during the peak shopping season at the end of 2025 and leading up to the Lunar New Year 2026. The stockpiling and preparation of vegetables and fruits for Tet is calculated and balanced to suit actual needs, ensuring the quality of agricultural products with abundant supplies from sources in Dong Nai province, Lam Dong province, and other provinces and cities in the Southwest region... Currently, the total amount of goods entering the market averages 230-280 tons per day and night, and is expected to increase significantly during the peak period leading up to Tet, depending on purchasing power and actual demand.
According to the Provincial People's Committee, the plan to ensure a balance between supply and demand of essential goods for the 2026 Lunar New Year is based on the current population of Dong Nai province, which is nearly 4.5 million people (approximately 1.1 million households). The goods will be stockpiled for about one month. The projected consumer demand for some essential goods before, during, and after Tet is over 15.8 trillion VND.
According to Do Doan Thanh, Head of Marketing at Co.opmart Dong Xoai Supermarket ( Binh Phuoc Ward, Dong Nai Province): The supermarket has begun developing plans and strategies to prepare goods for the 2026 Lunar New Year. It is expected that essential items such as rice, pork, poultry, eggs, seafood, vegetables, ready-to-eat packaged foods, canned processed foods, spices, sauces, cooking oil, confectionery, and bottled water will see a 30-50% increase in stock to serve the Tet holiday, with allocation depending on peak consumption periods during Tet.
Similarly, Nguyen Ky Hiep, Director of MM Mega Market Bien Hoa (in Tran Bien ward, Dong Nai province), shared: The supermarket has planned its inventory for the year, and has connected with suppliers early to proactively secure a stable supply of goods, build promotional programs, and stabilize prices, especially for essential goods for the 2026 Lunar New Year.
