According to the US Saffir-Simpson hurricane scale, a Category 4 hurricane has wind speeds of 209-251 km/h and is capable of causing catastrophic damage (Typhoon Yagi is equivalent to Category 5). The NHC forecasts storm surges could reach 6 meters along some coastal areas.
Hurricane Helene could be the strongest hurricane to hit the U.S. in over a year. Not only will it make landfall in Florida, but the storm will sweep across a number of states in the southeastern United States.

Mandatory evacuation orders have been issued across much of the state, and nearly the entire state is on alert as the storm threatens to bring heavy rains causing flooding, strong winds, and high waves that threaten to cause damage to life and property.
Numerous schools announced closures and evacuations, while several airports also temporarily suspended operations. More than 600 flights were canceled on September 25th.
The leaders of Georgia and North Carolina have also declared a state of emergency ahead of Hurricane Helene, bringing the total number of US states doing so to five.
