An Giang Cardiovascular Hospital cooperated with Cho Ray Hospital to perform surgery to save the life of a critically ill patient.

On December 3, MSc. Dr. Mai Pham Trung Hieu, Deputy Director of An Giang Cardiovascular Hospital, said that with support from Cho Ray Hospital (Ho Chi Minh City), An Giang Cardiovascular Hospital successfully performed a complex open heart surgery: Coronary artery bypass grafting on the beating heart (Off-Pump CABG), without using artificial heart-lung, for a male patient with severe multi-branch coronary artery damage, saving the patient's life from a critical condition.

Patient NVP (56 years old, residing in Vinh An commune, An Giang province ) was admitted to the hospital with severe left chest pain and difficulty breathing during exertion. Despite following medical treatment, the condition did not improve.

Through the examination and implementation of specialized paraclinical tests, it was discovered that the patient had a very serious illness: Damage to all 3 coronary artery branches with heart failure, a dangerous condition, directly threatening life if not promptly surgically intervened.

The professional council of An Giang Cardiovascular Hospital and experts of Cho Ray Hospital consulted and decided to perform the most optimal method, which is coronary artery bypass surgery without using extracorporeal circulation (Off-Pump CABG).

Unlike conventional heart surgery (which requires stopping the heart), Off-Pump is performed while the heart is still beating. This is a difficult technique, requiring highly skilled surgical and resuscitation teams and absolute precision in connecting artificial blood vessels (LIMA-LAD, AO-RAMUS-LCx-PDA) to reperfuse the heart.

After only 24 hours of surgery, the patient was fully awake, extubated and breathing well on his own; vital signs were stable, the surgical wound was dry and heart function was recovering positively. After 7 days of treatment, Mr. P was discharged from the hospital on the morning of December 3 .
