On December 8, Mr. Pham Van Muoi, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ca Mau, said that the unit had submitted to the Provincial People's Committee for consideration and approval of the policy of expanding the scope of the Project "Eradicating and controlling invasive alien species in nature reserves in Ca Mau province" to the reserves of the former Bac Lieu province, in order to synchronously integrate into the province's general management database after the merger.

The proposed project extension is implemented in areas where the presence of alien species is clearly recorded, including: Bac Lieu Bird Garden Nature Reserve; Ap Canh Dien Species and Habitat Conservation Area, Ap Lap Bird Garden; Coastal Mangrove Forest Nature Reserve and natural riverine ecosystems...
The project will conduct additional surveys to update the current distribution status, create a list of invasive or potentially invasive alien species. The contents include: collecting relevant information; investigating and assessing the current status; describing the origin, biological characteristics, ecology, and distribution; displaying a current status map; analyzing the impact on the ecosystem, environment, and biodiversity. At the same time, the project will build a WebGIS database to serve the general management of the province after the merger.

Conservation areas will also receive training on identification, management and implementation of solutions to control and eradicate invasive alien species.
The total proposed budget for the extension is over VND765 million, with an implementation period of 12 months from the date of approval. According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Ca Mau, the project expansion helps strengthen the control of invasive alien species throughout the province, contributing to the protection of unique ecosystems, maintaining biodiversity and improving the effectiveness of state management.
