According to voters in Gia Lai province, National Highway 25 passing through the area still has 6 old bridges that were built a long time ago, are now dilapidated, do not meet the road's load capacity, and have weight limit signs posted.
This includes the Ia Sol bridge (near Phu Thien market), built in 1975, which is now dilapidated. The narrow bridge creates a bottleneck right in the center of Phu Thien town, with a very high volume of traffic, posing a potential risk of accidents and failing to ensure traffic safety, causing traffic jams during peak hours.
Voters in Gia Lai province have requested the upgrading and expansion of National Highway 25 through the area, as many sections and bridges along the route are in disrepair, posing a potential traffic safety risk (illustrative image).
Some sections of the road are also degraded, especially the section from Ia Ake commune, bordering Phu Thien town, to Plei Tang intersection. This is the central gateway to the district, with high traffic density and frequent traffic accidents.
Therefore, voters have petitioned the Ministry of Transport to prioritize investment in upgrading and expanding National Highway 25 in order to standardize its scale and develop its operational capacity effectively.
Regarding this matter, the Ministry of Transport stated that, according to the Road Network Planning for the period 2021-2030, with a vision to 2050, National Highway 25 has a length of approximately 182km, with a road scale of class III, 2-4 lanes.
In Gia Lai province, National Highway 25 is approximately 112km long. Of this, about 73km out of 112km has been renovated and upgraded to meet the planned scale; the remaining 39km out of 112km has an existing roadbed width of 6-8m and a road surface width of 5.5-7m.
The Ministry of Transport agrees with the proposal of voters in Gia Lai province regarding the necessity of investing in upgrading and expanding the remaining sections of National Highway 25 (including the 6 old bridges) according to the planned scale to meet the transportation needs and socio -economic development of Gia Lai province.
"However, due to resource constraints, it is not yet possible to allocate funds for investment in this section of the route during the 2021-2025 period. The Ministry of Transport acknowledges the voters' recommendations and, in the process of developing the medium-term public investment plan for the 2026-2030 period, based on the ability to balance resources and the principles of capital allocation as stipulated, the Ministry of Transport will consider reporting to the competent authorities to invest in the renovation and upgrading of National Highway 25 and the six old bridges on the route as requested by the voters," the Ministry of Transport stated.
Over the past period, the Ministry of Transport has assigned the Vietnam Road Administration to implement maintenance and repair work in 2022, 2023, and 2024 with a budget of approximately 95.10 billion VND to ensure safe and convenient operation of the road.
