On the afternoon of November 5, the Da Nang Fine Arts Museum announced that to commemorate and honor musician Phan Huynh Dieu on the occasion of his 100th birthday (November 11, 1924), the unit coordinated with the Union of Literature and Arts Associations of Da Nang City, the Vietnam Musicians Association, and the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Da Nang City to open an art exhibition with the theme Phan Huynh Dieu - The Bird Returns on November 8.
The work " Strand of Memory, Strand of Love" by author Ha Chau (oil on canvas) created in 2024 is featured at the exhibition.
The exhibition introduces 15 paintings, 8 sketches, 1 sculpture and 53 photographs, recreating everyday moments of the working life and musical creativity of musician Phan Huynh Dieu, an outstanding son of his hometown Quang Nam - Da Nang.

Notably, the only sculpture at the exhibition named Phan Huynh Dieu - Musician of love songs is by sculptor Dinh Gia Thang, adopted son of musician Phan Huynh Dieu. Sculptor Dinh Gia Thang won the State Prize for Literature and Arts in 2022 for the monument to Vietnamese Heroic Mothers. located in Tam Ky City (Quang Nam).
The 6-ton statue was sculpted in 2021 by musician Phan Huynh Dieu's adopted son and sculptor Dinh Gia Thang.
Sculptor Dinh Gia Thang said that the two recognized each other as father and adopted son in 1987. After nearly 40 years as the adopted son of the talented musician, Mr. Dinh Gia Thang said that he had learned many valuable things from his adoptive father.
“The most precious thing about him is his optimistic spirit and love of life in any situation. He has never been angry or raised his voice at anyone. He is always gentle, kind, tolerant, witty and profound. Those precious qualities of his also have a great influence on me. To me, he is a great artist, a very exemplary and wonderful father. I learned a lot from him,” said Mr. Thang.

With sincere feelings, the adopted son of the late musician Phan Huynh Dieu was determined to carve a statue named Phan Huynh Dieu - The returning bird, placed in his yard to commemorate his adoptive father.
Sculptor Dinh Gia Thang tells the story of creating a statue about his adoptive father.
The statue was inspired by the song Boat and Sea by the late musician with a kind smile. The musician sits on a boat, drifting on the sea with a flock of seagulls and his familiar mandolin.
“I carved the statue from Thanh Hoa gray stone and Volakat Italia. The statue weighs about 6 tons, is 2.1 m high, 1.9 m wide, and 0.82 m thick. It took me 8 months to make it. After the statue was completed in December 2021, I placed it in front of my house so that not only me but also my descendants will always remember him - a father, grandfather, and a great artist of Vietnamese music ,” said sculptor Dinh Gia Thang.

Mr. Thang added that this is the second time the statue has been exhibited after the first time it participated in the exhibition at APEC Park (Da Nang City) in 2022.
According to Mr. Thang, Da Nang City also raised the issue of launching this statue and placing it right on the Han River - where the ashes of the late musician Phan Huynh Dieu were scattered according to his wish to blend into the river of his beloved hometown Da Nang.
The exhibition displays 53 photos introducing the life and creative career of the late musician.
The art exhibition with the theme Phan Huynh Dieu - The returning bird is one of the activities in a series of events to celebrate the 100th anniversary of musician Phan Huynh Dieu's birth, coordinated by the Vietnam Music Association and the People's Committee of Da Nang City, which will take place this weekend.
Da Nang Fine Arts Museum informed that the exhibition is not only a deep gratitude to the talented artist Phan Huynh Dieu but also an opportunity for the public to honor his lifelong contributions to the country's music industry.

Musician Phan Huynh Dieu was born on November 11, 1924 in Da Nang City and passed away on June 29, 2015. He was known as the "golden bird of Vietnamese music" with famous compositions such as: Life is still beautiful, March of days and nights, Night stars, Threads of memories, Threads of love, At the two ends of nostalgia, Boats and seas ... With his great contributions to the country's music, in 2000, musician Phan Huynh Dieu was awarded the Ho Chi Minh Prize for literature and arts.
