On December 7, the People's Committee of Dong Nai province issued a document requesting additional content in Resolution 98 to enjoy special mechanisms for extending the metro line from Ho Chi Minh City to Long Thanh airport.
The document was sent to the National Assembly's Economic and Financial Committee and the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee.
According to the People's Committee of Dong Nai province, implementing the Prime Minister 's conclusion, the province is coordinating with the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City to study the shortest urban railway route to connect Tan Son Nhat airport and Long Thanh airport.
Specifically, from Terminal T3 of Tan Son Nhat Airport, passengers take urban railway line No. 6 to Thu Duc Station. Here, passengers take urban railway line No. 1 (Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien) extending to Dong Nai Provincial Administrative Center and connecting to Long Thanh International Airport.
The total length of the route is about 63km. The two localities will study organizing a number of trains running continuously at certain fixed times, stopping only at two stations (Dong Nai Provincial Administrative Center Station and Thu Duc Station).
Travel time from Long Thanh airport to Tan Son Nhat airport and vice versa is about 38-40 minutes.
During the working session on October 21, the Standing Committee of Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai agreed to assign Dong Nai province as the competent authority for the railway line extending the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line to the Dong Nai Provincial Administrative Center and Long Thanh Airport. From there, an urban railway line connecting the two airports will be formed.
According to the People's Committee of Dong Nai province, the addition of the project to extend the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line to Long Thanh airport will help Dong Nai fully apply the resolution's special mechanisms.
Thereby, helping to effectively mobilize social resources and revenue from land fund development according to the TOD model; maximizing the value of land fund and urban space along the metro line; shortening investment preparation time through special procedural mechanisms.
At the same time, create momentum for urban - service - commercial development along the corridor connecting Ho Chi Minh City - Dong Nai - Long Thanh airport; increase the efficiency of inter-regional connections; soon form an urban railway connecting Tan Son Nhat airport and Long Thanh airport.
"The addition of the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line extension project to Long Thanh airport to the list of urban railway projects applying special mechanisms under Resolution No. 188 is very necessary, ensuring a complete legal basis and in accordance with the requirements for developing public transport infrastructure in the region, creating conditions for the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee to speed up the project implementation progress, concretizing the content of the conclusion of General Secretary To Lam," the document stated.
In addition, Ho Chi Minh City is currently assigned by the Prime Minister to implement the Thu Thiem - Long Thanh airport railway line with a length of about 41.8km. Of which, the section passing through Dong Nai is about 30km long and a depot is arranged in Long Thanh commune with a scale of 24ha.
The Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee is proposing to add the above project to the list of urban railway projects of Resolution No. 188 to apply the Resolution's special mechanisms.
Therefore, adding the Ben Thanh - Suoi Tien metro line extension project to Long Thanh airport to the list of urban railway projects applying special mechanisms under Resolution No. 188 will create conditions for the two projects to be implemented synchronously, with unified mechanisms and policies.
