Specifically, the price of pepper in Dak Lak is being purchased at 150,000 VND/kg, an increase of 500 VND/kg compared to yesterday. The price of pepper in Chu Se (Gia Lai) is being purchased at 148,000 VND/kg, an increase of 500 VND/kg compared to yesterday. The price of pepper in Dak Nong today is recorded at 150,000 VND/kg, an increase of 500 VND/kg compared to yesterday.

In the Southeast region, the price of pepper in Ba Ria - Vung Tau is currently at 148,500 VND/kg, an increase of 500 VND/kg compared to yesterday; in Binh Phuoc, the price of pepper today is also at 148,500 VND/kg, an increase of 500 VND/kg compared to yesterday.

Entering December 2025, domestic pepper prices fluctuated slightly but were unlikely to experience a significant surge. In the early days of the month, prices hovered around 148,000 - 150,000 VND/kg, even reaching 151,000 VND/kg in some regions. After a brief increase, the market adjusted, causing prices in many areas to fall below 150,000 VND/kg, before recovering by about 500 VND/kg on December 9-10 and gradually stabilizing.

This volatility stems from a tug-of-war between supply and demand. Pepper production remains low due to reduced planted area, unfavorable weather conditions, and the impact of storms and heavy rains in the Central Highlands and Southeast Vietnam. Inventories at farms are also low, leading many households to hoard goods and create a certain degree of scarcity in the market.

On the demand side, import demand from the US is recovering and contributing to price support. However, purchasing power is not yet strong enough to create a significant upward trend because the international market has not yet shown any outstanding signs. Exchange rates and logistics costs continue to exert pressure, making businesses cautious about year-end contracts.

The December pepper market maintained a slightly upward and more stable trend compared to the previous month, but there are no signs of a new price increase cycle forming. If supply remains limited and global demand remains strong, prices could reach 150,000 - 152,000 VND/kg in the second half of the month. Conversely, if early harvests appear or demand weakens, prices could fall back to 147,000 - 149,000 VND/kg.

World pepper prices today

According to the International Pepper Association (IPC), at the close of the most recent trading session, the IPC listed Indonesian Lampung black pepper at US$6,981/ton (down 0.06%) and Muntok white pepper at US$9,624/ton (down 0.07%).

Brazilian ASTA 570 black pepper was priced at US$6,075/ton (down 1.23%). Malaysian ASTA black pepper was priced at US$9,000/ton; Malaysian ASTA white pepper reached US$12,000/ton.

Today, Vietnamese black pepper is trading at US$6,500/ton for the 500 g/l variety; US$6,700/ton for the 550 g/l variety; and white pepper at US$9,250/ton.

Vietnam's pepper production for the 2024-2025 crop year is projected to reach only about 160,000 tons, a decrease of 5-7% compared to the previous season due to aging plantations, lack of irrigation water, and a sharp increase in pests and diseases. In this context, recovering demand from the US, EU, and the Middle East has helped boost export value by more than 20% in the first 11 months of the year.

Experts recommend that businesses prioritize short-term contracts to mitigate risks when future prices are unpredictable, especially as global supply may improve from Q2/2026. Inventory control, quality standardization, and expansion of deeply processed products will help businesses maintain profitability.

For farmers, holding onto goods for too long is not advisable as prices are nearing the peak of the cycle. Selling in stages combined with warehousing is considered a way to reduce risk in a highly volatile market.

Pepper growers also need to focus on investing in replanting, disease control, and the application of drip irrigation to stabilize yields in subsequent seasons, especially as the impacts of climate change become increasingly unpredictable.
