Teachers in Da Nang go to school to raise equipment to prevent flooding

On September 19th, Mr. Le Van Hoang, Head of the Education and Training Department of Hoa Vang District ( Da Nang City), stated that immediately after receiving the official document from the Department of Education and Training regarding the suspension of classes and response to Typhoon No. 4 and floods, the district's education sector requested schools in flood-prone areas to urgently move teaching equipment to higher ground to ensure safety and minimize damage.

According to Mr. Hoang, schools at risk of flooding in Hoa Bac commune, schools in Truong Dinh village (Hoa Lien commune), Hoa Tien 2 kindergarten, An Trach village (Hoa Tien commune), Hoa Phong kindergarten, Lam Quang Thu primary school, Tran Quoc Tuan secondary school (Hoa Phong commune)... have cleaned up, trimmed tree branches, and moved equipment to higher floors to avoid flooding.

"Currently, the relocation of school equipment to higher ground has been completed. The Department of Education and Training has also requested schools in flood-prone areas to assign personnel to be on standby and ready with response plans in case of heavy rain and flooding, ensuring the safety of people and equipment," Mr. Hoang said.

After the storm and floods subside, based on the actual situation in each area, the Department of Education and Training of Hoa Vang District will instruct schools to arrange specific make-up class schedules, ensuring the safety of students.

When students are on holiday, teachers in Hoa Vang District gather at the school to move teaching equipment to higher ground.

Earlier, on the afternoon of September 18th, the Department of Education and Training announced that more than 290,000 students from preschool to high school would be given time off from school to avoid Typhoon No. 4 and to prevent dangerous heavy rain.

According to a quick report from the Steering Committee for Disaster Prevention, Search and Rescue and Civil Defense of Da Nang City, from 7 PM on September 18th to 7 AM on September 19th, Da Nang City experienced moderate to heavy rain, with some areas experiencing very heavy rain, with rainfall amounts ranging from 40 to 80 mm.

Specifically, total rainfall in Lien Chieu, Thanh Khe, and Hai Chau districts is generally 70-150 mm, with some areas exceeding 200 mm; in Son Tra and Ngu Hanh Son districts, it is generally 80-180 mm, with some areas exceeding 200 mm; and in Cam Le district and Hoa Vang district, it is generally 70-150 mm, with some areas exceeding 200 mm. Water levels in the two large reservoirs Hoa Trung and Dong Nghe (Hoa Vang district) and other medium and small reservoirs in Da Nang city are all currently low.

Currently, 1,157 vessels are anchored with 8,297 workers. Two vessels with 19 workers are operating at sea, but they have been informed of the developments and movement of Typhoon No. 4. Currently, the Border Guard of Da Nang City is maintaining communication with the vessels operating at sea, guiding them to avoid entering dangerous areas or to return to shore for safe shelter.

As for tourist boats, 26 vessels have returned to the anchorage area to take shelter from the storm on the Co Co River (Ngu Hanh Son District).

At the same time, they are monitoring the weather situation and setting up checkpoints in areas prone to flooding, deep water, strong currents, and landslides to prevent people from entering dangerous areas. People and vehicles are strictly prohibited from traveling in areas along rivers, streams, lakes, dams, and flooded areas for fishing purposes.
