The organization El Zulia Recicla restored 160 school desks using plastic waste collected by students themselves. The process involved repairing the damaged metal frames and replacing the rotten parts with factory-made molded plastic panels.
“The goal of the project is not just to recycle, but also to inspire the community to see the value of reuse,” said Nicolino Bracho, research director at El Zulia Recicla.
The initiative has had a tangible impact at Ramon Reinoso Nunez School, where poor students are forced to sit on the floor or use their backpacks as chairs. The project has resulted in 20 new desks being installed, significantly improving learning conditions.
“We had a hard time with desks being stolen and damaged,” said school principal Maritza Jaimes. “Now, the restored desks have given students new hope.”
El Zulia Recicla's initiative not only reduces plastic waste but also contributes to fostering a sense of environmental responsibility among Venezuelan youth.
