Cooperation in research on marine and island environment management in the Gulf of Tonkin

In order to improve and protect the environment, improve the ecosystem of the Gulf of Tonkin and contribute to the restoration of damaged habitats, on June 26 in Beijing (China), Vietnamese Minister of Natural Resources and Environment Dang Quoc Khanh and Chinese Minister of Natural Resources Wang Guanghua signed and exchanged the Cooperation Agreement in the presence of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and Chinese Premier Li Qiang.

The signing of the Agreement on Cooperation in Research on Integrated Management of the Marine and Island Environment in the Gulf of Tonkin between the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam and the Ministry of Natural Resources of China aims to implement the Joint Statement between the two countries' senior leaders during the official visit to China by General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong from October 30 to November 1, 2022 in Beijing.

At the same time, the signing is also based on the Agreement between the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam and the State Oceanic Administration of China on Cooperation in Research and Management of Marine and Island Environment in the Gulf of Tonkin signed on October 13, 2013.

The Agreement on Cooperation aims to maintain the continuity of research on marine environmental management in the Gulf of Tonkin and facilitate continued cooperation between the parties, promoting the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership between Vietnam and China.

The objective of the Research Cooperation on Integrated Management of Marine and Island Environment in the Gulf of Tonkin between the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment of Vietnam and the Ministry of Natural Resources of China is to further develop cooperation on marine environmental and ecological management and scientific research in the Gulf of Tonkin.

The parties will enhance understanding of the current state of ecology and marine environment of the Gulf of Tonkin, improve the level of marine ecological and environmental management, and provide reference materials and technical support to improve and protect the environment, improve the ecosystem of the Gulf of Tonkin and contribute to the restoration of damaged habitats.
