Quang Nam Provincial People's Committee has sent an official dispatch to the departments to advise and propose contents related to Quang Nam Medical College. Previously, Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee requested to report and propose contents related to this school.
Proposing solutions to overcome financial difficulties of the school
The Provincial People's Committee requests the Department of Home Affairs to preside over and coordinate with relevant agencies to urgently inspect, review and report on the current organizational structure and operating model of the school. Urgently advise competent authorities on personnel work and propose the school's operating model in the coming time.
The Department of Finance shall preside over and coordinate with relevant agencies to review and report specifically on the current financial mechanism of the school, including the management and use of the 2024 budget; budget debt and debt of funds of agencies, units, and employees.
Advise and propose solutions to resolve the school's financial difficulties in the coming time.
The province also requested the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs to inspect, review and substantially evaluate the enrollment and training work of Quang Nam Medical College in the past time.
Actively coordinate with the school and the Department of Home Affairs to propose to competent authorities the school's operating model in the coming time.
Lecturers collectively stopped working due to unpaid wages, principal prosecuted
As reported by Tuoi Tre Online , Quang Nam Medical College has recently had many "scandals" surrounding unpaid salaries, lecturers collectively stopping work, the school's hospital operating ineffectively, and school leaders being disciplined and prosecuted.
The People's Committee of this province has decided to temporarily suspend Mr. Huynh Tan Tuan - the school's principal - from his position to serve the investigation.
Previously, regarding the violations at this school, the Investigation Police Agency of Quang Nam Province Police prosecuted Mr. Huynh Tan Tuan and 3 others for abusing their positions and powers while performing official duties.
In April 2023, the Inspection Committee of Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee reviewed and concluded the inspection of the party organization and party members when there were signs of violations at the party committee of this school.
Accordingly, the Provincial Party Committee's Inspection Commission found that the school's Party Committee for the 2015-2020 and 2020-2025 terms violated the Party Committee's working regulations, loosened leadership and management, lacked inspection and supervision, and allowed violations of regulations on management and use of the school's budget, finance, and assets.
The Provincial Party Committee's Inspection Commission decided to impose disciplinary action against Mr. Huynh Tan Tuan.
In another development, due to Quang Nam Medical College's long-standing debt to its employees, in December 2023, the school's lecturers decided to collectively stop working.
According to the lecturers, the school has not paid their salaries and allowances for 6 months from July 2023 to December.
17 staff and lecturers of the school sent a notice of collective work stoppage to the school's leaders. The Provincial People's Committee then provided additional support of 5.8 billion VND for the school to pay the salary arrears to the workers.-
