When the people of Ea Riêng change their mindset and approach to escape poverty

In the story of poverty reduction in Ea Riêng commune, the most noticeable aspect is the dramatic shift in how people access economic development opportunities.

While many households were previously hesitant or even apprehensive about borrowing capital or adopting new techniques, now people, especially ethnic minorities, are more confident and proactive. From financial support and technical guidance to livelihood models, awareness campaigns, and career orientation, everything is creating a comprehensive "support ecosystem," giving people a springboard to rise out of poverty sustainably.

In 2025, from the National Target Program for Socio -Economic Development in Ethnic Minority and Mountainous Areas (Program 1719), Ea Riêng commune was allocated over 2.9 billion VND for projects to develop production, improve livelihoods, invest in essential infrastructure, communication, and support vulnerable groups.

Officials from Ea Riêng commune visited a successful coffee replanting model implemented by residents of Hamlet 9.

To effectively utilize funds from Program 1719, Ea Riêng commune conducted a thorough review and implemented the program in a way that prioritized "the right people, the right work, and the right needs," avoiding scattered investments and ensuring that investment capital truly reached the households most in need.

In addition, various associations and organizations in the commune have implemented many forms of capital mobilization to support the people. Particularly noteworthy is the Women's Union of Ea Rieng commune with a series of savings and support models that have yielded practical results: 24 capital pooling groups with a total amount of over 311 million VND; a piggy bank savings model of over 216 million VND; the "Rice Jar of Compassion" movement providing timely support to dozens of disadvantaged households; and the Social Policy Bank capital managed by the Union reaching an outstanding loan balance of over 39 billion VND, enabling 634 households to borrow for economic development.

These forms of support not only provide "seed capital," but also help to form saving habits, foster a spirit of sharing, and encourage mutual assistance in terms of labor, livestock, and seedlings.

The case of Ms. Mai Thi Minh (village 5, San Diu ethnic group) is a typical example. In 2021, she borrowed 20 million VND from the Association's fund to renovate 1 hectare of old coffee trees. The women in the branch also actively guided her on tree care techniques and suggested intercropping with short-term crops to "use short-term gains to support long-term growth." By 2024, the coffee entered the production stage, yielding 4 tons of coffee beans per hectare, helping Ms. Minh's family officially escape poverty.

The people of Ea Riêng commune have boldly accessed loans from the policy bank to invest in developing their family economies.

Not only Ms. Minh's family, but many households in the commune have also found new directions through farming and livestock models and access to loans. According to Ms. Doan Thi Phuong, President of the Women's Union of the commune, each year about 10 member households receive support in the form of savings, enabling them to buy breeding cows, renovate coffee gardens, repair houses, or start small businesses. Model meetings and clubs such as "Changing Mindsets and Methods" have become spaces for women to share production experiences, learn from exemplary models, and gradually change their mindset for economic development.

Alongside women, the youth of Ea Riêng also make significant contributions to poverty reduction. With a proactive spirit, the Youth Union has intensified the dissemination of policies, career guidance, support for young people in vocational training, job transitions, and access to loans. Currently, the Youth Union manages 12 loan groups with nearly 30 billion VND in outstanding loans, of which about 30% are youth-led economic development models. Many young people have confidently engaged in pig farming, fruit tree cultivation, and online agricultural product sales, contributing to a significant improvement in their families' economic situation.

The poverty reduction program in Ea Riêng goes beyond simply providing capital and means of production. Activities such as communication campaigns, technical training, gender equality education, and prevention of child marriage; investment in roads and clean water; and the disbursement of nearly 3 billion VND in operational funds for 2025 are all aimed at building a foundation for sustainable development.

Thanks to the coordinated efforts of the entire political system and the diligent spirit of the people, the poverty rate has decreased year by year, and the lives of people in Ea Riêng are changing day by day.
