Born and raised in a farming family, in the early years of his career, Mr. Thu encountered many difficulties. In 1993, when the State had a policy of allocating land and forests, with available human resources, he received nearly 30 hectares of forest hills to develop the economy , mainly growing corn, cassava, upland rice and forestry trees but with low income.

In 2005, when the cinnamon growing movement in Van Yen developed strongly, he decided to convert the entire hilly land area to cinnamon growing. When the cinnamon area had not yet closed its canopy, he intercropped with corn and cassava to get food for livestock development. Along with that, he renovated the area of shovels to grow grass for livestock feed. In 2005, he bought 10 cows to raise; in 2017, he continued to experiment with raising commercial bamboo rats. From a few initial pairs of breeding bamboo rats, seeing the effectiveness, he continued to multiply the herd, and has now maintained a stable 30 pairs of breeding bamboo rats. Each year, he sells 70 kg of commercial bamboo rats, with an average price of 500,000 VND/kg, bringing in a good income.

In early 2025, seeing the sharp drop in the price of commercial cattle, he sold his herd of cattle to buy buffalo to raise, both taking advantage of by-products from farming and serving the increasing market demand. In addition, he also raises 100 pigs/batch, 10 goats and maintains more than 1,000 m² of fish ponds and more than 200 poultry of all kinds. Mr. Thu shared: Doing business, it is important to know how to calculate, take advantage of land and combine many production directions to not be passive in the face of market fluctuations.

Officials of the Women's Union of Tan Hop commune inspected the integrated livestock farming model of Mr. Thu's family.

Thanks to that, Mr. Thu has succeeded with the comprehensive economic model with a total revenue of over 400 million VND after deducting expenses. With a good economy, his family has built a solid house and purchased machinery for production. More importantly, he creates seasonal jobs for 3-5 local workers during the cinnamon harvest season, contributing to solving employment for people in the village. He also plans to continue expanding the livestock model as well as the organic cinnamon area to create clean cinnamon products.
