U.23 Vietnam wants to win all group stage
Coach Kim Sang-sik is taking positive steps, both testing and ensuring the attacking strength of the Vietnam U.23 team with two victories of 5-0 and 2-1 against the Taiwan U.23 team at Ba Ria Stadium on July 2 and 4.
This is a good step forward as the team is completing human and physical preparation, before aiming to reduce the squad to 23 names that will officially register for the upcoming 2025 Southeast Asian U.23 tournament.
At the tournament taking place in Indonesia, the U.23 Vietnam team will be in Group B with two neighboring opponents, U.23 Laos and U.23 Cambodia. This is considered a favorable result for coach Kim Sang-sik and his team to "warm up" before entering the next round.
Looking at the history of confrontation, it will not be surprising if U.23 Laos and U.23 Cambodia will focus on playing a crowded defense, placing "double-decker buses" and using a fierce, aggressive style of play to narrow the gaps.
The fact that highly anticipated players such as Quoc Viet, Van Truong, Van Khang... simultaneously scored on Ba Ria field brings confidence that the U.23 Vietnam team's attack will soon open fire to bring victory against U.23 Laos (July 19) and U.23 Cambodia (July 22).
Avoided host U.23 Indonesia in the semi-finals
Coach Kim Sang-sik and his team's goal will be to win all matches to take the top spot in Group B, against two opponents that are rated lower (U.23 Vietnam has the advantage of playing later, so they will clearly see the playing style of U.23 Laos and U.23 Cambodia when they meet on July 16).

At that time, according to the knockout round branching rules, the U.23 Vietnam team will have 2 possibilities to meet the team ranked first in group C (with U.23 Thailand, along with U.23 Myanmar, U.23 East Timor) or second in group A (with U.23 Indonesia, U.23 Malaysia, U.23 Philippines, U.23 Brunei).
Looking at the relative strength and advantages of each team, it is highly likely that U.23 Thailand, with its superior strength, will rank first in Group C while U.23 Indonesia will certainly do everything possible to compete for the top spot in Group A, pushing U.23 Malaysia into second place in the group.
If they win the top spot in Group B, coach Kim Sang-sik and his team will likely avoid the prospect of having to face the host team U.23 Indonesia in the semi-finals on July 25, with the promise of facing this opponent in the final match, recreating the final of the 2023 Southeast Asian U.23 tournament.
In the neutral field, the U.23 Vietnam team will focus on winning regardless of whether the opponent is U.23 Thailand or U.23 Malaysia, before putting all their strength into fighting the host team U.23 Indonesia in the final match scheduled to take place on July 29, at the "fire pan" Gelora Bung Karno with a capacity of more than 80,000 passionate fans.
The tournament with U.23 Vietnam broadcast on FPT Play.
