In 2025, the Southern virtual filtering group recorded the largest scale ever when processing more than 1.59 million wishes, with an average virtual rate of up to 172%. The information was announced at the Conference to summarize virtual filtering work and organize the capacity assessment exam organized by Ho Chi Minh City National University on the afternoon of December 5.
Associate Professor Dr. Tran Cao Vinh, Vice Director of Ho Chi Minh City National University, said: 15 virtual filtering rounds have created more than 890,000 admission wishes on average per round, an increase of 41% compared to 2024. The sharp increase in candidate data and admission methods has kept the number of virtual wishes between schools at a very high level. While the group's virtual wishes reached 520,000 per round, the Ministry of Education and Training 's system only recorded about 56,000.
In 2025, 87 Southern higher education institutions will participate in the virtual filtering group with a total quota of 301,253. After the Ministry's filtering rounds, the average number of successful candidates will reach 370,000, equivalent to 123% of the quota.
Ho Chi Minh City National University believes that the high virtual rate comes from the sharp increase in wishes and the diversity of admission methods. This leads to a slow convergence process, forcing the system to increase the number of filters to ensure accurate results, while also putting pressure on human resources and communication of the schools.

Entering 2026, many southern universities have announced new enrollment plans to adapt to the context of increasing virtual rates.
Ho Chi Minh City National University will organize the V-ACT competency assessment test in two sessions (April and June 2026), maintaining the paper-based test format and a 3-part structure: Language use - Mathematics - Scientific thinking.
Nha Trang University recruits 3,800 students for 71 programs, applying direct admission, high school graduation exam scores, capacity assessment scores of two national universities and English requirements for some majors.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry and Trade maintains 5 admission methods and especially exempts 100% of tuition fees for the entire course and supports 3 million VND/month for candidates admitted directly. From 2028, the school will stop considering transcripts and switch to the method of assessing comprehensive capacity.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology maintains a comprehensive admission process that accounts for 95-99% of the target, requiring candidates to use high school exam scores, school records, international certificates or capacity assessment scores.
Ho Chi Minh City University of Industry plans to switch to comprehensive admission, converting high school transcript scores - high school exam scores - capacity assessment to the same common scale.
Pham Ngoc Thach University of Medicine plans to enroll 13 majors, with admission based on a 30-point scale, no conversion of English from certificates, and Math required in all groups.
Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City continues with 4 methods and opens 3 new majors: Chinese Language, Insurance, Hotel Management - Restaurant & Food Services.
Many other schools such as Yersin University in Dalat also announced their 2026 enrollment plans, while the Ministry of Education and Training requested schools to clarify their admission methods as soon as possible, preparing for the 2026 high school graduation exam scheduled to take place on June 11-12.
With the growing scale of candidate data and the sharp increase in the virtual rate, 2026 is predicted to be a season of many changes in admissions, forcing schools to accelerate process standardization and diversify methods to reduce risks and increase accuracy in admissions.
