On the evening of September 11, the official Facebook page of the US Embassy in Hanoi posted a statement by US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper, stating: "The US will provide $1 million in emergency assistance for Vietnam's response efforts following Typhoon Yagi." According to the embassy's announcement, in the face of catastrophic damage caused by Typhoon Yagi, the US Government, through the US Agency for International Development (USAID), will provide $1 million in emergency assistance for Vietnam's response efforts. USAID is currently participating in joint assessment teams that are en route to the most affected provinces to assess the relief and recovery needs of millions of people affected by this unprecedented natural disaster. "We would like to express our deepest condolences to all the families who have lost loved ones and have been severely affected by the storm. The US is a committed partner of Vietnam in the emergency response and recovery efforts following this unprecedented natural disaster," Mr. Knapper stated. Earlier on September 10, Ambassador Marc Knapper also sent his condolences, saying that the US Embassy is closely monitoring the landslides, floods and infrastructure damage in northern Vietnam, due to the severe impact of super typhoon Yagi. "During this difficult time, we would like to express our condolences to the military, police, and government of Vietnam, as well as the efforts of the people to support each other in times of need while implementing disaster assessment and response activities. On the occasion of the one-year anniversary of the US-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, we stand side by side with you to overcome the consequences of natural disasters and cooperate closely with our Vietnamese government partners in emergency response efforts to support the recovery of a beautiful and resilient Vietnam," Mr. Knapper emphasized, according to information on the US Embassy's Facebook page.
