An 8th grade male student at Hoa Nam Secondary School in Hanoi was held by 5 friends, who forced his private parts into a pole many times.
A 17-second video of the incident went viral on social media on the afternoon of November 28, attracting tens of thousands of interactions. In the video, the male student was thrown onto his back, with four friends holding his legs and one holding his hand. The five friends then lifted him up and repeatedly thrust his sensitive part into the flagpole in the schoolyard. The victim appeared to be in pain and unable to fight back. Around him, about six other male students stood watching, one of them clapping.
Responding to VnExpress , Mr. Doan Vu Hai, Principal of Hoa Nam Secondary School, Ung Hoa District, said the incident happened on November 8 but the school only discovered it on November 24. Hoa Nam School determined that there were 6 students involved, including 5 who directly committed the bad behavior with their friend and one who stood by to film the clip. The victim and these 6 students are all 8th grade students.
"This is a group of friends who often play together, there were no previous conflicts," Mr. Hai said.

Determining the seriousness of the incident, Hoa Nam Secondary School reported it to the local police and coordinated the investigation. Six students were suspended from school, one of whom was suspended for two weeks due to more violations, and the other five were suspended for one week. This form of discipline was implemented yesterday. According to regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training , suspension is the highest level of discipline for students who violate the law.
Regarding the victim, Mr. Hai said he visited her and her family, and together with the police took her to the doctor on November 24.
"The student is in normal health and has no injuries," said Mr. Hai.
School violence is an existing problem in the education sector, according to the Ministry of Education and Training. Responding to questions at the National Assembly on the afternoon of November 7, Minister Nguyen Kim Son said that from 2021 to now, nearly 700 cases of school violence have occurred nationwide, involving more than 2,000 students.
