Thanks to this connection, many families who work far away still receive encouragement and reminders with instructions to arrange for their children to come to the right time and place for health check-ups. In cases where they live far away and have difficulty with travel expenses, the community representative provides support.
Faster by effectively using social networks
Except for a few very old people, most of the 484 prestigious people among ethnic minorities and 98 village elders in Dong Nai are familiar with using social networks and make good use of cyberspace similar to Mr. Vong Nhi Sap to connect ethnic minorities, conveying local activities to each family and individual in the community.
Currently, 582 prestigious people among ethnic minorities and village elders are acting as representatives and "bridges" between nearly 406,000 ethnic minorities and Party committees and authorities at all levels in implementing patriotic emulation movements and maintaining security and order in Dong Nai. Most of the prestigious people among ethnic minorities and village elders in the province are under 60 years old. At the same time, through the election in early 2025, the educational level of individuals holding the role of prestigious people among ethnic minorities and village elders has been raised. Therefore, the use of social networks and the application of these platforms for propaganda and mobilization are focused on by each individual and considered a breakthrough in performing the tasks of prestigious people among ethnic minorities.
Village 5, Bu Dang commune has 360 households, nearly 90% of which are ethnic minority families. After 11 years as the Head of Village 5, Mr. Dieu Lich shared that at first, he encountered many difficulties because the propaganda was completely done manually. About 4 years ago, Mr. Dieu Lich bought himself a computer and a smartphone to become the digital village head. In addition, although there are many people in the village who have smartphones, most of them do not know how to use them to interact with the government. Therefore, Mr. Dieu Lich and the village community's Digital Technology Team have come up with many solutions to propagate and guide people to install and use applications deployed by the State, and submit administrative procedures online.
Mr. Dieu Lich, Head of Village 5, Bu Dang Commune, guides people to submit administrative procedures online and equips them with skills to protect themselves in cyberspace. |
Mr. Dieu Lich said: “When the whole society transforms digitally, we are forced to transform as well. By taking advantage of social networks as a channel for propaganda and receiving opinions from people at the grassroots level, village cadres like me do not have to run back and forth with difficulty. Now, even though I work on a farm dozens of kilometers away from home, I can still manage the village's work very easily.”
Similarly, according to Mr. Dieu Toa, a prestigious person among the Choro ethnic group in Dau Giay commune, in order to maintain traditional culture classes for the youth in the community, he connects with elders who are knowledgeable about ethnic traditions to teach the younger generation. During this process, there are teachers and students who work far away and cannot arrange to return to their hometowns on the weekend evenings, so he invites them to join a live video call group to teach and learn online together. This flexible approach helps teachers and students not to miss lessons and creates conditions for more and more Choro youth, even those who live far away, to participate in traditional culture classes.
In addition, according to Mr. Dieu Toa, because the Choro people have a language but no writing system, he has recently transcribed the ethnic language into Vietnamese so that his descendants can pronounce it correctly, making it easier to store community information in writing. However, he alone cannot complete this task. Therefore, through social networks, he connects with cultural researchers, artists, and Choro elders living throughout the country to ask for advice during his transcription process. This helps him speed up the completion of this language book.
In 2025, one of the key tasks of the work of prestigious people among ethnic minorities and village elders is to promote digital transformation and apply digital transformation in practice to enhance the role, responsibility, and initiative of prestigious people among ethnic minorities and village elders.
Help reputable people and village elders exploit cyberspace effectively
To help prestigious ethnic minority people and village elders effectively transform digitally, many consulting, training and direct hand-holding activities have been carried out by authorities to help the "bridges" between the Party, government and ethnic minorities operate effectively.
Mr. AB Do Ha Mit, a prestigious person among ethnic minorities in Xuan Hoa commune, said that when the local government launched training courses on digital transformation and information technology application, he tried to participate. After learning and experiencing in practice, he disseminated and instructed people in the community. Also from the knowledge he gained, he and the people recognized which information sites were official sources and avoided believing or following information on unverified social networking sites.
Mr. Dieu K'rang, Head of the Front Committee of Village 7, Bu Dang Commune, has proactively learned and made the most of social media as a channel for propaganda and economic development, as well as receiving feedback from the grassroots. He identified this as an important factor in the working process.
Recently, villagers have received many fraudulent calls about paying electricity bills or impersonating police officers to install applications. However, through training programs and propaganda on newspapers and radio, villagers are very vigilant, self-identifying fraudulent tricks or immediately reporting to the village chief to prevent them in time. Therefore, in recent years, the village has not had any cases of falling into the trap of fraud in cyberspace.
Mr. Vong Nhi Sap, a prestigious person among the Chinese ethnic group in Binh Loc commune, was instructed by local authorities to collect information on ethnic minority families in the area through a mobile application. |
According to Deputy Director of the Department of Ethnic Minorities and Religions Nguyen Van Khang, in order to continue to support and guide prestigious people among ethnic minorities and village elders to apply and exploit information on cyberspace, the content on digital transformation and safe and effective use of social networks is included in specialized training conferences or combined in conferences on ethnic work held annually. To ensure that prestigious people among ethnic minorities and village elders can easily understand and apply immediately after the conferences, in each training program, the Organizing Committee invites reporters from departments, branches, cultural experts, and police forces to directly convey situations that people often encounter when using social networks.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Luyen, a prestigious person among the Muong ethnic group in Tri An commune, said that her proficient use of information technology helps to quickly and officially convey information about policies for ethnic minorities to the people. In addition to training, prestigious people among ethnic minorities and village elders have set up pages: Zalo, community Facebook with members being the heads of each ethnic minority family. To help people easily grasp the content, in addition to posting the entire document, prestigious people among ethnic minorities and village elders also summarize the core content and then forward it to the people so that everyone can understand the issue correctly. This helps to prevent bad and toxic information, information distorting policies, and contributes to orienting and stabilizing public opinion in the ethnic minority community.
