On July 20th, the 115 Emergency Center of Khanh Hoa province announced that a security guard and the center's team had dramatically saved a patient who had suffered cardiac arrest and respiratory failure on Nha Trang beach.
At around 7:30 a.m. that same day, after swimming in the sea, Mr. TVT (67 years old, residing in Khanh Hoa) suddenly experienced difficulty breathing, turned blue, and collapsed on the sand.
The incident was discovered by Mr. Tran Do Trong Dai, a security guard working at Khanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital.
Upon noticing the man had stopped breathing, Mr. Dai performed chest compressions and artificial respiration, while simultaneously calling the 115 Emergency Center and using a speakerphone to receive direct instructions from medical personnel, mobilizing local residents for assistance.
Three minutes later, the 115 emergency medical team arrived to provide assistance. By then, Mr. T. was in a deep coma and was diagnosed with cardiopulmonary arrest suspected to be due to cardiovascular disease.
At the beach, the emergency team continued chest compressions, intubation, oxygenated ventilation, and intravenous administration of adrenaline. After 10 minutes of resuscitation, the patient regained a pulse, gasped for breath, and was urgently transferred to Khanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital.
In the emergency department, the patient was conscious, had their eyes open, could move their arms and legs, was breathing weakly on their own, and their vital signs were gradually stabilizing.
The patient is currently being monitored in the intensive care and toxicology unit.
Representatives from Khanh Hoa Provincial General Hospital stated that timely first aid in the community is a crucial factor.
"Without Mr. Dai's proper intervention before the emergency team arrived, the victim would have had little chance of recovery," this person said.
The Khanh Hoa 115 Emergency Center advises that every minute of delay during cardiac arrest reduces the chance of survival by 7-10%. With proper chest compressions and artificial respiration, anyone can save a life.
If people are not confident in doing this themselves, they should immediately call the nearest medical facility, using the speakerphone to receive detailed step-by-step instructions while waiting for the ambulance to arrive.
