Fifteen pioneering innovative businesses are showcasing sustainable solutions at RMIT University's Hanoi campus. Notably, even the exhibition booths demonstrate a commitment to minimizing waste and protecting the environment.
The RMIT Alumni Green Business Exhibition is an annual event that first launched in 2023, aiming to celebrate sustainable development initiatives that apply ESG (environment, social, governance) standards.
This year's exhibition showcases products and services from 15 businesses, operating in both B2B and B2C markets and spanning various sectors such as agriculture , food, green energy, new materials, and recycling technology.
While recycling was the focus of last year's inaugural exhibition – a pioneering event that used booths made entirely of cardboard and recycled materials – this year's focus has shifted to reuse.
The goal is to minimize waste generation by designing booths that can be reused for future events.
Therefore, the booths are designed in a modular form that can be easily assembled, disassembled, and reassembled into different configurations without the need for any adhesive.
The materials used are lightweight and made from natural sources without compromising durability. This makes the stalls easy to transport and handle, while also enhancing their reusability.
Ms. Nguyen Thuy Linh, Deputy Head of Alumni Relations at RMIT Vietnam, said: "By applying innovative design and green principles, we aim to inspire businesses and event organizers in Vietnam to prioritize sustainability."
Businesses can reuse their booths for multiple future exhibitions. Regardless of how they are reused, flexible and lightweight booths will help reduce transportation costs and environmental impact.
"We prioritize resource regeneration and minimizing environmental impact at every stage of the product lifecycle. We are reviewing the impact of the events we organize and are committed to implementing long-term changes," Ms. Linh said.
In addition to the exhibition, the school also collected used clothing and books from November 12th to 14th at its Hanoi campus. Participants could then exchange items at the Green Market on November 15th and 16th. This initiative aims to promote reuse and a more sustainable lifestyle for today's consumers.
The exhibition is open until November 17, 2024 at the RMIT Industry and Innovation Hub, 521 Kim Ma Street, Hanoi. Admission is free.
Some of the standout products at the exhibition:
Binh Minh Capital introduces types of algae used to maintain a healthy environment in shrimp farming ponds and salt-tolerant rice varieties.
VietCycle's premium recycled plastic pellets are an alternative to virgin plastic pellets, meeting the standards for food packaging and personal care products.
The booths can be easily assembled and disassembled.
A sample of concrete made from coffee grounds was provided by a research team from RMIT University in Australia. Based on this groundbreaking research, the state of Victoria has been testing the construction of the world's first concrete walkway containing coffee grounds.
