Viettel is the only new company added this year, reflecting its rapid growth and well-planned investment strategy in core technology. Omdia evaluates Viettel based on a transparent classification framework, using two evaluation axes: Business Performance and Portfolio Breadth & Competitiveness. From this, Omdia classifies Viettel as an "Upcoming Vendor"—companies with outstanding technological capabilities and expanding influence in the global mobile core network market.
Viettel has built a complete system, from control and data processing components that ensure subscriber registration, service coordination, and high-speed data transmission, to resource management and allocation systems that help the network operate stably and meet the specific needs of each type of service.
In addition, Viettel also develops open platforms and intelligent analytics using artificial intelligence, helping businesses and external applications securely connect to network capabilities, while supporting the network operator in automating operations and optimizing performance.
Thanks to its "self-reliant-open-smart" approach, Viettel has built a complete 5G Core ecosystem to serve both large-scale mobile networks and private 5G networks for businesses.
According to Omdia, mastering the 5G core network is considered far more strategic than previous generations, thanks to its role in enabling advanced network functions, creating new revenue generation models, and most importantly, meeting national digital sovereignty goals in a context where all countries around the world place particular importance on this.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Quang, General Director of Viettel High Tech, emphasized: "Being recognized by Omdia is a positive sign, showing that Viettel's first steps in mastering 5G core technology are on the right track. Mastering the core network opens up opportunities for faster deployment of new services, from telecommunications to industry, healthcare, education , and many other fields. We consider this a motivation to continue our efforts, both to serve the development of the country and to gradually bring Make in Vietnam solutions to the world."

Viettel's development roadmap is clear and proven in practice, having begun researching core network technology for 5G in 2019. By 2023, the system was ready for trial operation on the Viettel network. Immediately after the commercialization of 5G, Viettel's core network deployed to support millions of 5G NSA (5G based on 4G) and 5G SA (standalone 5G) subscribers. This milestone demonstrates technological maturity and scalability—two factors Omdia uses to highly rate emerging providers and assess their potential to enter the Major Challengers group in future reports.
In mastering 5G core technology, Viettel High Tech has also demonstrated its R&D capabilities, possessing 4 core technologies, 8 international scientific publications, registering 1 patent in the US and 11 patents in Vietnam. Viettel's research teams are currently focusing on the most advanced areas of 5G core networks with technologies requiring stringent standards, promising to generate even more inventions and new knowledge in the coming period.
Viettel is continuing to expand its research into core 6G technologies, AI, and automated core networks, aiming to make Vietnam a leading telecommunications technology hub in Asia. Previously, Viettel was also recognized by Gartner, a globally renowned consulting firm, in its Magic Quadrant for CSP 5G RAN Infrastructure Solutions 2025 report.
Omdia, a subsidiary of Informa TechTarget, is a leading technology research and consulting firm. With deep industry expertise and a wealth of market data, Omdia provides analytics that helps clients seize opportunities and drive growth in the global technology sector.
According to Omdia, Viettel stands out because of its ability to independently develop all the critical components of the 4G/5G core network (5G Core) – considered the "brain" of the telecommunications infrastructure. This is unlike many providers who focus only on a few individual functions.
