Viettel is the only new company added this year, reflecting its rapid growth and strategic investment in core technology. Omdia evaluates Viettel based on a transparent classification framework, based on two evaluation axes: Business Performance and Portfolio Breadth & Competitiveness. From there, Omdia places Viettel in the "Upcoming Vendors" group - businesses with outstanding technological capabilities and are expanding their influence in the global mobile core network market.
Viettel has built a complete system, from control and data processing components that ensure subscriber registration, service coordination and high-speed data transmission, to management and resource allocation systems that help the network operate stably, meeting each type of specialized service.
In addition, Viettel also develops open platforms and smart analytics using artificial intelligence, helping businesses and external applications securely connect to network capacity, while supporting network operators to automate operations and optimize performance.
Thanks to the "autonomous-open-smart" approach, Viettel has built a complete 5G Core Network ecosystem to serve both large-scale mobile networks and 5G private networks (Private 5G) for businesses.
According to Omdia, mastering the 5G core network is considered much more strategic than previous generations, thanks to its role in enabling advanced network functions, creating new revenue models, and most importantly meeting national digital sovereignty goals in a context where all countries in the world attach special importance.
Mr. Nguyen Minh Quang, General Director of Viettel High Tech, emphasized: "Being recognized by Omdia is a positive signal, showing that Viettel's first steps in the process of mastering 5G core technology are on the right track. Mastering the core network opens up opportunities to deploy new services faster, from telecommunications to industry, healthcare, education and many other fields. We consider this a driving force to continue our efforts, both serving the country's development and gradually bringing Make in Vietnam solutions to the world."

The development roadmap is clear and practically verified because Viettel started researching core network technology for 5G in 2019. By 2023, the system was ready for trial operation on Viettel's network. Immediately after commercializing 5G, Viettel's core network deployed to support millions of 5G NSA (5G Network based on 4G) and 5G SA (5G Standalone) subscribers. This milestone shows the technological maturity and scalability - two factors that Omdia uses to evaluate emerging suppliers and consider the possibility of entering the Major Challengers group in the coming reporting periods.
In the process of mastering 5G core technology, Viettel High Tech also demonstrated its R&D capacity by owning 4 core technologies, 8 international scientific articles, registering 1 patent in the US and 11 patents in Vietnam. Viettel's research teams are currently focusing on the most advanced areas of the 5G core network with technologies that require strict standards, promising to create more new inventions and knowledge in the coming period.
Viettel is continuing to expand research on 6G core technologies, AI and autonomous networks, aiming to make Vietnam a leading telecommunications technology center in Asia. Previously, Viettel was also recognized by Gartner, a famous global consulting company, in the Magic Quadrant for CSP 5G RAN Infrastructure Solutions 2025 report.
Omdia, part of Informa TechTarget, is a leading technology research and advisory firm. With deep industry expertise and a wealth of market data, Omdia delivers insights that help clients seize opportunities and drive growth in the global technology sector.
According to Omdia, Viettel stands out thanks to its ability to self-develop all important components of the 4G/5G core network (5G Core) - the part considered the "brain" of the telecommunications infrastructure. Unlike many suppliers who only focus on a few single functions.
