On the morning of October 25, the National Assembly held a closed-door meeting on personnel matters, chaired by National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man .
At the session, the National Assembly voted to approve the Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's proposal to appoint Mr. Tran Duc Thang as Minister of Agriculture and Environment for the 2021-2026 term through electronic voting.
The results showed that 427 delegates participated in the vote (90.08% of the total number of delegates); of which, 427 delegates voted in favor (90.08% of the total number of delegates, equivalent to 100% of the delegates present).
Mr. Tran Duc Thang was born in 1973 in Phu Tho province. He previously served as Deputy Director and then Director of the Department of Public Assets Management, Ministry of Finance .
From 2018 to 2022, Mr. Thang worked at the Central Inspection Committee, holding positions as a member of the Central Inspection Committee and then as Deputy Chairman of the Central Inspection Committee.
In October 2022, he was transferred and appointed by the Politburo to the position of Secretary of the Hai Duong Provincial Party Committee for the 2020-2025 term.
He was then assigned and appointed to the position of Permanent Deputy Inspector General of the Government Inspectorate from July 1, 2025. In mid-July, he was transferred to work at the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, and given the authority of Minister.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment was established in March 2025, based on the merger of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment.
The Ministry is responsible for state management in the following areas: agriculture, forestry, salt production, fisheries, irrigation, disaster prevention and control, rural development, land, water resources, mineral resources and geology, environment, meteorology and hydrology, climate change, surveying and mapping, remote sensing, integrated resource management and protection of the marine and island environment.
The Ministry of Agriculture and Environment currently has the following Deputy Ministers: Mr. Nguyen Hoang Hiep, Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong Hoa, Mr. Tran Thanh Nam, Mr. Tran Quy Kien, Mr. Le Cong Thanh, Mr. Phung Duc Tien, Mr. Nguyen Quoc Tri, Mr. Hoang Trung, and Mr. Vo Van Hung.
