According to a submission from the Da Nang City Department of Culture and Sports to the Department of Cultural Heritage (Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism) on September 19, 2025, phase 2 of the project to restore, renovate and beautify Dien Hai Citadel has a total investment of nearly 82 billion VND, from the city's budget.
Phase 2 of the project focuses on restoring the inner citadel area, a place rich in historical, architectural, and archaeological values; while also aiming to both preserve and effectively promote the site in urban tourism and cultural development.
All elements are designed according to the principle of harmonizing ancient architecture with modern technological solutions to preserve historical significance while enhancing accessibility and experience for the public.
The project to restore and renovate Dien Hai Citadel (phase 2) focuses on reconstructing the inner citadel area on an area of 9,665m² with the main items: reconstruction of the East gate, the West gate, and the flag tower; the highlight is the underground exhibition house applying 3D virtual reality technology, the memorial shrine and the internal walkway system, rest area, technical area and supporting infrastructure.

With the city about to implement phase 2 of the project to restore and beautify Dien Hai Citadel, the local people are highly supportive. Mr. Bui Sy Cho, Secretary of the Party Branch of Tan Lap 2C residential area, Hai Chau ward, said that the restoration and beautification are necessary so that today's and future generations can better understand the traditions of their ancestors.
“Dien Hai Fortress is not only associated with the name of the famous general Nguyen Tri Phuong, but also a spiritual symbol of patriotism and the indomitable will of the people of Da Nang . We hope the project will be implemented and completed soon, becoming a living museum, a place known to tourists both domestic and international,” Mr. Cho expressed.
Sharing the same view, Mr. Ton That Du, Head of Residential Group 11 Thach Thang, Hai Chau Ward, said: “We agree and hope the project will be started soon, constructed safely, and without affecting the lives of the people. In particular, items such as lighting, water, and fire protection systems need to be implemented synchronously, serving both the historical site and improving living conditions for the residential area.”
The restoration and renovation of Dien Hai Citadel not only signifies gratitude to the past but also opens up opportunities for tourism and community economic development in the future.

The project is expected to be implemented in 2026.
Mr. Huynh Dinh Quoc Thien, Director of the Da Nang Museum, emphasized that Dien Hai Fortress is a relic of special value, marking the beginning of the modern struggle of the people of Quang Nam - Da Nang.
Therefore, the upcoming Phase 2 has profound scientific and historical significance; every step of the reconstruction must be based on accurate archaeological and historical data.
According to Mr. Thien, over the past four years, the city and relevant agencies have organized numerous scientific seminars, working sessions with the National Heritage Council, and collected maps, ancient documents, and archaeological survey results to serve as a basis for reconstruction.
The meticulous and long-term preparation aims to ensure the accurate reconstruction of Dien Hai Citadel, true to its historical original, meeting the requirements of sustainable preservation and promoting the heritage value in contemporary life.
Mr. Huynh Dinh Quoc Thien, Director of Da Nang Museum
Representatives from the Da Nang City Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism stated that the design drawings for phase 2 are currently being reviewed by the Department of Cultural Heritage, and construction is expected to begin in 2026. Residents in the area surrounding Dien Hai Citadel can rest assured that phase 2 will not involve land clearance or compensation; all construction work will be within the city limits.
The restoration of the East Gate was carried out based on historical documents, while also opening a connection to the Central Administrative Square, creating a harmonious landscape axis between the historical site and the urban space. This is a conservation-development approach, aiming to integrate the historical site into the city's tourism and cultural ecosystem.

According to Ms. Le Qui Ha, Vice Chairman of the Hai Chau Ward People's Committee, upon completion, Dien Hai Citadel is expected to be not only a project preserving its original state but also a vibrant historical education space, suitable for the learning and visiting needs of students and tourists.
With thorough professional preparation, community consensus, and responsible management by relevant authorities, the restoration and renovation project of Dien Hai Citadel is expected to "awaken" the heritage, preserve and spread its glorious history to present and future generations.
