Durian price forecast for May 24, 2024: Slight fluctuations compared to yesterday. As the harvest season begins, domestic durian production is abundant, meeting both domestic consumption and export demands; therefore, durian prices may change daily.

Previously, today, May 23rd, durian prices were highest in the Southwestern region and lowest in the Southeastern region and Central Highlands. Prices at the farm will be 3,000-5,000 VND/kg lower depending on the purchasing method (bulk or selective).

Accordingly, Ri6 durian is priced at 71,000 – 85,000 VND/kg; Thai durian at 90,000 – 98,000 VND/kg; and Musangking durian at 100,000 – 105,000 VND/kg.

In the Southwestern region of Vietnam, durian prices decreased slightly today. High-quality Ri6 durians are priced at 68,000 - 70,000 VND/kg, while lower-quality Ri6 durians are priced at 70,000 - 88,000 VND/kg; high-quality Thai durians are priced at 98,000 - 100,000 VND/kg; and lower-quality Thai durians are priced at 80,000 - 85,000 VND/kg.

In the Southeast region, durian prices today are fluctuating compared to yesterday. Specifically, Ri6 durian (premium quality) is priced at 71,000 - 74,000 VND/kg, while Ri6 durian (lower quality) is being purchased by traders at 60,000 - 70,000 VND/kg; premium Thai durian is priced at 95,000 - 98,000 VND/kg; meanwhile, Thai durian (lower quality) stands at 80,000 - 83,000 VND/kg.

The forecast for durian prices on May 24th suggests a slight downward trend.

In the Central Highlands region, the price of high-quality Ri6 durian is 65,000 - 68,000 VND/kg, while the price for lower-quality Ri6 durian is 50,000 - 55,000 VND/kg. High-quality Thai durian is priced at 95,000 - 98,000 VND/kg, while lower-quality Thai durian is 75,000 - 78,000 VND/kg.

According to statistics from the General Department of Customs, in May, the export value of fruits and vegetables reached 665 million USD, an increase of 10.3% compared to the previous month but only a 1.2% increase compared to the same period in 2023. This is the second lowest growth rate since the beginning of the year (February saw a negative growth of 11% compared to the same period in 2023 due to the extended Lunar New Year holiday).

According to the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association (Vinafruit), the main reason is the unusually intense heatwave, which has affected the yield and production of many types of fruit. In particular, durian, a key commodity, has been significantly affected in terms of production due to the hot weather, causing a slowdown in durian export revenue, as well as fruit and vegetable exports in general, in May.

Currently, durian in the Mekong Delta is nearing the end of its harvest season, while provinces in the Eastern and Southern Central Highlands are preparing for their peak harvest. It is predicted that in the coming months, durian and fruit and vegetable export revenue may increase sharply again. While the purchase price of durian at the farm has decreased, the improved yield ensures that growers' income remains good.
