According to a report by the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, the province will still be short of more than 4,200 teachers and education staff in the 2024-2025 school year.
In the past, localities have organized teacher recruitment drives, but the number of applicants has not met the demand.
Moreover, fluctuations in the number of retirements, resignations, and job transfers make the problem even more difficult.
Reportedly, the province is currently recruiting 1,778 teachers and the results will be available in the third quarter of 2024.
In response to this situation, the central government has allocated an additional 1,905 education staffing quotas to Gia Lai province. Currently, the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee has issued a decision to supplement these quotas.
According to the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, the reason localities are not recruiting enough teachers is because there are very few applicants. The levels and subjects facing difficulties in finding teachers include preschool, primary school culture, English, information technology, arts, and technology…
Besides candidates not meeting the recruitment standards, there is a situation where graduates seek other job opportunities with higher incomes, instead of applying for teaching positions. For integrated subjects, there is a lack of recruitment, creating difficulties for the education sector.
According to the education sector's needs plan for the 2024-2025 school year, Gia Lai province still lacks 4,259 teachers and education staff. Therefore, the province requests the central government to allocate additional quotas to the province to effectively carry out teaching activities.
At the same time, it was proposed not to reduce the 10% of civil servant positions that were added in the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 school years. The reason is that the locality still has a significant shortage of teachers.
Speaking to Tuoi Tre Online on August 12, Mr. Nguyen Van Long, deputy director of the Gia Lai Provincial Department of Education and Training, said that among the labor shortages, there are more than 3,000 teachers, with the rest being staff members.
To date, the province has recruited 1,244 teachers, and with the additional 1,905 teachers allowed to be recruited, it will cover all classes and resolve the teacher shortage.
Local authorities are currently developing recruitment plans, trying to find enough teachers for the new school year.
