Thuong Tin unexpectedly returns to the screen with People's Artist Minh Chau and actor Quoc Tuan

After a long absence from the screen, Thuong Tin surprised everyone when he appeared in the movie Coolie Never Cries , taking on a role that had an important influence on the psychological development of the main character played by People's Artist Minh Chau.

The film revolves around the journey of Mrs. Nguyen (People's Artist Minh Chau). Returning from Europe, she brought with her ex-husband's ashes and a coolie he left behind. In the midst of her turmoil, she received news that her niece wanted to get married to her younger boyfriend. By chance, Mrs. Nguyen met a young man and invited him to go on a long trip together, to reunite with close friends she hadn't seen in years.

At the time when Coolie Never Cries started filming in 2022, People's Artist Minh Chau revealed that she had the opportunity to meet artist Thuong Tin again through this film. While in real life, the two artists had not met for many years, in the film, Thuong Tin played the role of the in-law of Mrs. Nguyen's family. His role was not much, but his role played an important role in the emotional flow and nostalgic echo of the main character.

According to director Pham Ngoc Lan, the role in the original script was a woman and required the actress to lose weight for many months. However, due to not finding a suitable actress, he split this one character into two people in the story.

Coincidentally, the 8X filmmaker learned that artist Thuong Tin had just recovered from a stroke, and his pronunciation was no longer clear and round, quite similar to the character he described. He and the producer made an invitation and luckily received a nod from the star of Van bai lat ngua.

All of Thuong Tin's scenes in Coolie Never Cries were filmed in Ha Tinh. Due to no longer having a citizen ID card, the artist could not fly, so he had to travel by car for 1 day and 1 night from Ho Chi Minh City to the set. A long-time fan accompanied and supported the artist during the 5 days he worked with the film crew.

Despite suffering from a serious illness and many years away from the screen, artist Thuong Tin worked enthusiastically and cooperated wholeheartedly with the film crew. Director Pham Ngoc Lan recalled: "On screen, Uncle Tin's character was not in good health, but in fact, during filming, his health and spirit were both strong."

Meanwhile, People's Artist Minh Chau was moved to tears when she reunited with a colleague she hadn't seen for a long time. Artist Minh Chau said that artist Thuong Tin was a close friend of her husband. When he was young, every time he went to Hanoi for work, Thuong Tin often visited Minh Chau and her husband. Meeting and performing together, she felt sorry for her old friend.

Coolie Never Cry with the participation of People's Artist Minh Chau, Thuong Tin, Meritorious Artist Quoc Tuan... will be released in theaters from November 15.
