TPO – In the last week of June, Ho Chi Minh City and the Southern region will continue to have scattered showers and thunderstorms, with some heavy rain in the afternoon and evening. Thunderstorms may include tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind.

On the morning of June 24, some areas west of Ho Chi Minh City had widespread heavy rain. According to the Southern Hydrometeorological Station, through monitoring satellite cloud images, weather radar images and lightning location, it shows that the thunderstorm area is developing and causing rain with thunderstorms and lightning in the Long An and Tien Giang areas, with a tendency to move towards Ho Chi Minh City.

It is forecasted that in the next 3 hours, thunderstorms will continue to develop, causing showers, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning in the West - Northwest areas of Ho Chi Minh City, then expanding towards the central districts, Thu Duc City and the South of the city. Rainfall is generally from 5 - 15mm, in some places over 25mm. During thunderstorms, beware of tornadoes, hail and strong gusts of wind of about level 5 - 7 (8 - 17m/s).

Meanwhile, according to the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting, last night (June 23), the Central Highlands and the South had scattered showers and thunderstorms, with some areas having heavy to very heavy rain, with rainfall from 7:00 p.m. on June 23 to 3:00 a.m. on June 24 reaching over 40mm in some places.

It is forecasted that this afternoon and evening (June 24), the Southern region will have scattered showers and thunderstorms, locally heavy rain with rainfall from 15 - 30mm, some places over 70mm. The lowest temperature is from 23 - 26 degrees Celsius, the highest is from 29 - 32 degrees Celsius.

“Beware of the risk of flash floods and landslides in mountainous areas and flooding in low-lying areas. Beware of heavy rain in a short period of time causing flooding in urban areas. During thunderstorms, there is a possibility of tornadoes, lightning, hail and strong gusts of wind” – the National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting advises.
