Startup products from young intellectuals in Hue are reaching markets in major cities.

Comprehensive across all fields

Over the 15 years of implementing the New Rural Development Program, youth entrepreneurship and successful youth economic models in Hue City have made significant contributions to the construction of new rural areas and the overall development of the city. These include youth volunteer models, youth entrepreneurship, and innovation in the fields of science and technology (S&T), environment, and community. Among them, the agricultural and food entrepreneurship model, such as the "Huenuts Garlic Chili Peanuts" product of Mr. Ngo Minh Hieu in Dan Dien commune (*), is a prime example. After graduating from university with a degree in Food Technology and completing further training in Denmark, at the end of 2021, Hieu returned to his hometown to start his own business by establishing the Quang Phu Agricultural Production and Processing Cooperative, with 8 members.

Hieu shared: “After visiting many restaurants and eateries, I realized the market potential for appetizers made from peanuts is very high. Since people in my hometown grow peanuts on a large scale, I suddenly thought I had to do something for my local peanuts to contribute to building a new rural area,” Hieu recalled.

To date, the Quang Phu Agricultural Products Production and Processing Cooperative has developed into a large-scale operation with a 110m2 workshop, a 150m2 office and warehouse area, over 20 hectares of peanut cultivation under VietGAP standards, and partnerships with farmers on more than 50 hectares. Currently, Huenuts products are available in 16 provinces and cities nationwide and have achieved OCOP 3-star status. On average, the cooperative generates 3 billion VND in revenue annually, creating jobs for 14 permanent and 4 seasonal workers.

In the field of science and technology, one notable example is the startup model of Mr. Nguyen Van Thien Vu in Duong No ward, founder of AgriDrone Vietnam Joint Stock Company - General Director of Kinh Do Specialty Joint Stock Company, a pioneer in introducing agricultural drones for farming in Vietnam. Not only limited to drone technology, Nguyen Van Thien Vu also collaborated with the Central Youth Union to launch the AgriVerse-y virtual trade platform, a pioneering platform applying the Metaverse to agricultural trade, helping rural youth connect their startup products with consumers.

According to the Secretary of the Hue City Youth Union, Nguyen Thanh Hoai, there are currently thousands of comprehensive youth entrepreneurship models across various fields in the city. Promoting and expanding these youth entrepreneurship models and successful youth economic ventures not only contributes to building a resilient and creative young generation in Hue, and effectively implementing the "Young Intellectuals Volunteering to Build New Rural Areas" program, but also creates momentum for the comprehensive development of the city in the economic, science and technology, cultural, educational, and social fields.

Long-term strategy

To create a strong ripple effect and promote the youth entrepreneurship movement and the participation of young intellectuals in building new rural areas, all levels, sectors, and localities have focused on replicating exemplary youth models and spreading positive values ​​to the community. The Standing Committee of the Hue City Youth Union has also focused on activities such as organizing rural youth entrepreneurship competitions, entrepreneurship forums for ethnic minority communities in mountainous areas, exhibitions of startup products at forums and conferences, and dialogues with leaders, creating participation from many young intellectuals passionate about entrepreneurship and small and medium-sized enterprises.

From 2021 to the present, the Youth Union branches at all levels in the city have organized 84 training courses with 3,854 participants to transfer and apply scientific and technological advancements to agricultural production, transform production structures, and contribute to helping young people access science and technology and develop socio-economic activities in the locality. In addition, the Standing Committee of the City Youth Union has implemented preferential loans with zero interest for startup models, with a capital of 50 million VND per model, aiming to create more motivation for outstanding startup models.

Mr. Le Thanh Nam, Deputy Chief of the City's New Rural Development Coordination Office, affirmed that through the activities of young intellectuals, many localities have seen significant socio-economic changes. Specifically, with the help of young intellectuals, projects to build transportation infrastructure, clean water systems, schools, and health stations in rural areas have been implemented quickly and effectively. Many young volunteers, who are agricultural engineers, have helped people access new scientific and technological advancements in production, increasing productivity and the quality of agricultural products. Thanks to economic support activities and startup guidance, the poverty rate in many localities has decreased significantly. In addition, cultural and educational programs have also contributed to improving the spiritual life of rural people.

According to Mr. Le Thanh Nam, promoting youth entrepreneurship and economic development, and leveraging the role of young intellectuals in building new rural areas, is not only an immediate task but also a long-term strategy for sustainable rural development. Therefore, in the process of implementing the new rural development program and the next phase of the advanced new rural development program, the unit will strengthen guidance to localities to coordinate with Youth Union branches at all levels and other political and social organizations to proactively advise and propose specific programs and plans to maximize the participation of young intellectuals in socio-economic development projects in the locality.
