| Startup products of young intellectuals in Hue reach out to markets in big cities |
Comprehensive in all fields
Over 15 years of implementing the NTM program, youth start-up models and young entrepreneurs in Hue City have made significant contributions to the construction of the NTM and the overall development of the city. These include volunteer youth models, youth start-ups, and innovations in the fields of science and technology (KHCN), environment, and community. In particular, the start-up model in the field of agriculture and food such as the product "Huenuts Garlic Chili Peanuts" of Mr. Ngo Minh Hieu in Dan Dien commune (*) is a typical example. After graduating from university with a major in Food Technology and studying in Denmark, at the end of 2021, Hieu returned to his hometown to start a business by establishing the Quang Phu Agricultural Products Production and Processing Cooperative, consisting of 8 members.
Hieu shared: “After approaching many restaurants and eateries, I realized that the market potential for appetizers made from peanuts is very high. While people in my hometown grow peanuts on a large scale, I suddenly thought that I had to do something for my hometown’s peanuts to join hands in building the new rural areas,” Hieu recalled.
Up to now, Quang Phu Agricultural Production and Processing Cooperative has developed with a factory scale of 110m2, an office and warehouse area of 150m2, a peanut growing area of more than 20ha according to VietGAP standards and a partnership of more than 50ha with farmers. Currently, Huenuts products are present in 16 provinces and cities across the country and have achieved 3-star OCOP products. On average, each year, the Cooperative achieves a revenue of 3 billion VND, creating jobs for 14 regular workers and 4 seasonal workers.
In the field of science and technology, we can mention the startup model of Mr. Nguyen Van Thien Vu in Duong No ward, founder of AgriDrone Vietnam Aircraft Equipment Joint Stock Company - General Director of Kinh Do Specialty Joint Stock Company, the pioneer in bringing agricultural aircraft into farming in Vietnam. Not only stopping at drone technology, Nguyen Van Thien Vu also cooperated with the Central Youth Union to launch the virtual trading floor AgriVerse-y, a pioneering platform applying Metaverse to agricultural trade, helping rural youth connect startup products with consumers.
According to Secretary of the City Youth Union Nguyen Thanh Hoai, the city currently has thousands of comprehensive youth start-up models in various fields. Promoting and replicating youth start-up models and young people who are good at economics not only contributes to building a brave and creative generation of Hue's youth, contributing to the effective implementation of the program "Young intellectuals volunteer to participate in building new rural areas", but also creates a driving force to promote the comprehensive development of the city in the fields of economy, science and technology, culture, education and society.
Long term strategy
In order to create a strong spread and promote the youth start-up movement, young intellectuals participating in building the new rural areas, all levels, sectors and localities have focused on replicating typical youth models, spreading positive values to the community. The Standing Committee of Hue City Youth Union also focuses on activities such as implementing rural youth start-up competitions, start-up forums for ethnic minority mountainous areas, exhibitions of start-up products at forums, conferences, dialogues with leaders, attracting the participation of many young intellectuals who are passionate about start-ups and small and medium-sized start-up enterprises.
From 2021 to present, the Youth Union chapters at all levels in the city have organized 84 training courses with 3,854 participants in transferring the application of scientific and technological advances in agricultural production, transforming the production structure, contributing to helping young people access science and technology and developing the local socio-economy. In addition, the Standing Committee of the City Youth Union has implemented preferential loans with zero interest rates for start-up models, with a capital of 50 million VND/model, to create more motivation for typical start-up models.
Mr. Le Thanh Nam, Deputy Head of the City's New Rural Area Coordination Office, affirmed that through the activities of young intellectuals, many localities have had clear changes in socio-economics. Specifically, with the help of young intellectuals, projects to build traffic, clean water systems, schools, medical stations, etc. in rural areas have been implemented quickly and effectively. Many young volunteers who are agricultural engineers have helped people access new scientific and technological advances in production, increasing productivity and quality of agricultural products. Thanks to economic support activities and business start-up guidance, the poverty rate in many localities has decreased significantly. In addition, cultural and educational programs have also contributed to improving the spiritual life of rural people.
According to Mr. Le Thanh Nam, promoting youth entrepreneurship and economic activities, promoting the role of young intellectuals in building new rural areas is not only an immediate task but also a long-term strategy in sustainable development of rural areas. Therefore, in the process of implementing the program to build new rural areas and advanced new rural areas in the next phase, the unit will strengthen guidance for localities to coordinate with the Youth Union at all levels and other socio-political organizations to proactively advise and propose specific programs and plans to maximize the participation of young intellectuals in local socio-economic development projects.
