China sets goals for 15th Five-Year Plan

China has set out major goals for economic and social development during the 15th Five-Year Plan period, achieving new breakthroughs, improving the level of social civilization, and improving people's quality of life.

The recommendations of the Communist Party of China (CPC) for the 15th Five-Year Plan have set the top priority as building a modern industrial system and consolidating the foundation of the real economy , a senior official said on October 24, Xinhua reported.

Mr. Trinh San Khiet, Director of the National Development and Reform Commission, made the statement at a press conference.

Previously, on October 23, the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (the Fourth Plenum) closed after four days of work.

The conference heard and discussed the report presented by General Secretary Xi Jinping, and considered and approved the “Proposal of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on Formulating the 15th Five-Year Plan for National Economic and Social Development.”

The conference highly appreciated China's important achievements in development during the 14th Five-Year Plan period; and believed that China's economic strength, scientific and technological strength, and comprehensive strength have reached a new level.

China's modernization is progressing steadily, opening up a new development journey. The second centenary goal is off to a good start.

The conference pointed out that the 15th Five-Year Plan period is a key period to fundamentally consolidate the foundation and comprehensively promote socialist modernization, which plays an important role in the process of fundamentally implementing socialist modernization.

The conference set out the main goals for socio-economic development during the 15th Five-Year Plan period: high-quality development achieved remarkable results, the level of scientific and technological self-reliance was greatly improved, comprehensive reform was further deepened, new breakthroughs were achieved, the level of social civilization was significantly improved, and the quality of people's lives were continuously improved.

The conference reviewed and approved opinions related to the 15th Five-Year Plan, after which the State Council will complete the compilation to put it to a vote at the "Two Sessions" session, scheduled to be held in March 2026./.
