On August 22, the Department of Science and Technology of Da Nang city held a press conference to introduce the activities of the Da Nang City Innovation and Startup Festival - SURF 2024.

SURF is an annual event for the innovative startup community in Da Nang city in particular and the whole country in general.

At the same time, this is also a day that gathers the participation and connects many elements of the domestic and international startup ecosystem such as: state management agencies; large corporations; universities, colleges; incubators, organizations, individuals, innovative startups, etc.

SURF 2024 continues its mission of nurturing and developing innovative ideas, connecting with investors and leading startup experts to realize ideas and develop strongly in the market.

SURF exhibits many startup projects.

With the theme “Reaching Creativity – Connecting Globally”, SURF 2024 also opens up opportunities for international exchange and cooperation for the startup community nationwide in the coming time.

The festival includes a series of events: Innovation and Startup Competition with 30 participating teams; Launch of the Da Nang-Singapore Innovation Space; seminars: “Connecting investment and innovation in Da Nang-Korea-Singapore”, “Pioneering technology – Sustainable startups”, “Model and network for developing student startup clubs in Da Nang city”, etc.

The 10 most outstanding startups will have the opportunity to present their ideas and connect with domestic and international investors. At the same time, more than 80 booths of startups and innovation projects will also be exhibited live.

On this occasion, Deputy Director of the Department of Science and Technology of Da Nang City, Le Thi Thuc, also informed about Resolution No. 136, which was recently passed by the National Assembly on June 26, 2024.

Resolution No. 136 on organizing urban government and piloting a number of specific mechanisms and policies for the development of Da Nang city, including 4 groups of specific policies on science, technology, and breakthrough innovation, to remove many current bottlenecks and obstacles.

Specifically: Group of policies on exemption of corporate income tax and personal income tax; group of policies on supporting the development of innovative startup projects to promote the formation and development of enterprises.

Policy allowing controlled testing, in the form of limited-term licensing for new technologies, products, services, and business models; policy on exploiting scientific and technological infrastructure assets to serve innovative startups.

“With policy mechanisms and joint efforts of the entire community and the elements in the ecosystem, we believe that the city's innovative startup activities will develop strongly, playing an important role in developing businesses, promoting economic growth and improving the quality of life of the community,” Ms. Thuc emphasized.
