The Human Act Prize is an annual award organized by Nhan Dan Newspaper, to honor individuals and organizations that have made positive contributions to society through prestigious community initiatives and projects that bring timely, long-term and sustainable results.

With the theme “Building Community”, the Human Act Prize 2024 aims to promote the spread and connection in community activities, not only honoring excellent initiatives but also encouraging the replication of effective models. At the same time, the theme emphasizes the role of cooperation between large enterprises, organizations, and small volunteer groups in creating positive and sustainable changes.

Outperforming numerous other nominees, Vietnam Airlines excellently won the "Sustainable Development Idea" award with its project "Contributing Leaves to Repair Forests – For a Green and Sustainable Vietnam". This project was a close collaboration between three entities: Vietnam Airlines, MoMo, and PanNature. In 2023, Vietnam Airlines was honored to receive the Human Act Prize in the category of "Sustainable Projects with Golden Lotus Connecting Love".

In 2024, the project “Contribute leaves to mend forests – For a green and sustainable Vietnam” will take advantage of Vietnam Airlines’ existing customer base, MoMo’s optimal financial and technological platform, and PanNature’s experience in implementing forest conservation and restoration projects. Vietnam Airlines and MoMo will jointly contribute 5,000 VND in revenue – equivalent to 1 “Leaf” – from each Vietnam Airlines ticket purchase transaction worth over 2 million VND, contributing to the Project to implement the forest restoration program in 2024.

The project “Contributing Leaves to Restore Forests – For a Green and Sustainable Vietnam” aims to restore forests along the corridor connecting Hoa Binh and Son La – areas severely degraded due to human impact. Officially launched on World Environment Day, June 5, 2024, after more than six months of implementation, the project has planted over 60,000 trees of 18 native species, restoring over 80 hectares of forest in the two areas, contributing to improving the habitat for many wildlife species.

Not only stopping at the environmental aspect, the project also brings great benefits to the local community. Forest product collection activities and ecotourism development have created sustainable livelihoods for hundreds of households. In particular, more than 600 people have directly participated in the afforestation work, thereby better understanding the important role of natural resource protection for their lives and livelihoods.

The "For a Green and Sustainable Vietnam" project also aims to restore 500 hectares of forest in Hoa Binh and Son La provinces before 2032. In this project, businesses and customers will contribute financially, PanNature will be responsible for technical aspects, implementation, and supervision; and local authorities and communities will be responsible for planting, caring for, and protecting the forest.

This initiative has also been included in the SkyTeam global airline alliance's event library, thereby affirming Vietnam Airlines' pioneering position not only in leading national-scale initiatives but also in its ability to make a strong impact on an international scale, creating a profound mark of social responsibility and commitment to practical solutions for the future.

For many years, Vietnam Airlines has been making continuous efforts to join hands with the community to participate in programs to protect the environment. Previously, in 2022, Vietnam Airlines signed a commitment agreement with the Youth Union of the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to jointly implement the project "Planting special-use forests to protect the ecological environment at Bach Ma National Park, Thua Thien Hue province".

This project is in response to the Government's plan to plant 1 billion trees and to fulfill the target of planting 30 million new trees as stipulated in the Resolution of the 11th National Congress of the Youth Union and the "Million Trees - For a Green Vietnam" program.

In 2023, Vietnam Airlines coordinated to organize the launching ceremony of the "For a Green Vietnam" forest planting campaign in Hoa Binh province. In this program, Vietnam Airlines planted 10,000 trees. In Ha Tinh alone, more than 3,000 green lim trees in Ngan Pho Protective Forest were also planted by Vietnam Airlines.

In addition to greening forests, Vietnam Airlines has implemented many measures to reduce net emissions such as becoming the first airline in Vietnam to test the use of sustainable fuel SAF on some flights, optimizing fuel use for each flight, upgrading the fleet to use engines that reduce emissions, reduce noise, reduce plastic products on planes and promote the circular economy... This is a joint effort to reduce net emissions to "0" by 2050 of Vietnam Airlines.

Receiving the “Sustainable Development Idea” award is a recognition of Vietnam Airlines' efforts in creating sustainable values not only in the aviation sector but also for the community and the environment. In the future, the airline is committed to continuing to invest in innovative initiatives, implementing sustainable development solutions, and expanding cooperation with partners to contribute to a greener Vietnam.
