Developing green, organic and circular agriculture is a strategic goal and an irreversible trend.
According to Mr. Nguyen Duc Thuan - Head of Khanh Hoa Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, to realize this vision, the province needs to synchronously deploy systematic solutions, from innovation in production thinking, application of modern technology to building concentrated raw material areas associated with sustainable planning. This transformation is not only a change in farming methods but also a revolution in thinking and management.

Khanh Hoa currently has more than 186,000 hectares of cultivated land, with climate and soil conditions suitable for producing many high-value crops such as mango, durian, green-skinned grapefruit, apple, grape, onion, garlic, aloe vera, green asparagus, melon... This is an important foundation for the province to build organic agriculture, green agriculture and circular agriculture models.
Faced with increasing market demands and challenges from climate change, the province’s crop production sector has made strong strides. The province is implementing the Integrated Plant Health Management (IPHM) program, aiming to apply it to over 80% of rice, vegetable and fruit growing areas by 2030. The program helps reduce about 30% of pesticides and 30% of chemical fertilizers, thereby reducing soil and water pollution and lowering production costs.

The province has also achieved many outstanding results in applying high-tech agriculture. Up to now, the whole province has more than 1,003 hectares applying high technology to produce apples, grapes, fruit trees, aloe vera, asparagus, melons, vegetables of all kinds... In addition, more than 5,599 hectares have been certified for organic production according to international standards such as USDA-NOP (USA), JAS (Japan) and EU.
Currently, Khanh Hoa has applied a water-saving irrigation system and monitored pests and diseases using a sensor system with over 9,300 hectares of upland crops (including 1,862 hectares of annual crops and 7,438 hectares of fruit trees).
The introduction of a cold storage and processing chain into the post-harvest stage initially helps reduce agricultural product loss by up to 30%, increasing product competitiveness. The province aims to have 30-35% of the value of agricultural products produced under a cooperative model by 2030, forming a sustainable value chain from production - processing - consumption.
Breakthrough from 4 projects
Despite achieving many positive results, in order to expand the scale and replicate effective models, Mr. Nguyen Duc Thuan said that Khanh Hoa province needs to soon complete the policy mechanism in a resolute, practical and breakthrough direction.

According to Mr. Thuan, the prerequisite is to build a strong enough financial mechanism, creating conditions for farmers and businesses to easily access preferential capital sources, and proactively receive new technologies such as high-quality plant varieties, digital transformation in production management or automation in monitoring and irrigation.
To concretize the goal, Khanh Hoa Department of Agriculture and Environment has assigned the Provincial Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection to preside over the implementation of two breakthrough tasks (to be completed in 2026) including: Project on developing digital agricultural economy , smart agriculture, green agriculture and circular agriculture and Project on building concentrated production areas, applying digitalization - blockchain in traceability.
Along with that, the land problem - the decisive factor in expanding concentrated production areas is being solved through the Project to amend and perfect the mechanisms on land allocation, land lease, land use conversion, land valuation, and land recovery (expected to be completed in the period of 2025 - 2026). This will be an important legal basis to remove the bottleneck of land funds for large-scale production.

In addition, the Project on assessing soil characteristics and land agrochemistry chaired by the Khanh Hoa Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection will help the province manage and use agricultural land effectively, optimize crop arrangement and reduce environmental impacts.
To further improve the agricultural development strategy towards sustainability and comprehensiveness, Mr. Thuan emphasized the need to promote the connection of green agriculture with energy conversion, circular economy and environmental protection. This requires the province to develop policies to encourage the use of agricultural by-products to create organic fertilizers, animal feed and bioenergy, minimizing waste to the environment.
This orientation is consistent with the Environmental Protection Plan for the period 2026 - 2030, contributing to realizing the goal of building a prosperous, modern and sustainably developed Khanh Hoa agriculture.
