The Vietnam Social Security agency affirms that this is fake news and completely false. The Law amending and supplementing several articles of the Health Insurance Law (Health Insurance Law 2024) has just been promulgated and will take effect from July 1, 2025, aiming to further expand and ensure more health insurance benefits for participants, especially for serious illnesses with high treatment costs.
Therefore, the Vietnam Social Security recommends that people be vigilant against this misinformation and not share fake news.

Regarding the actual payment of medical examination and treatment costs for health insurance participants, the Vietnam Social Security stated that participants are reimbursed 80%-100% of their medical examination and treatment costs according to the benefits and coverage levels of their health insurance card.
Vulnerable groups (children under 6 years old, the poor, the near-poor, ethnic minorities, etc.) are always guaranteed government support for the cost of participating in health insurance.
The Health Insurance Fund covers more than 10,000 medical procedures (including many advanced techniques such as cardiovascular surgery, organ transplantation, MRI, CT, PET-CT,...) and reimburses for 1,037 active pharmaceutical ingredients with thousands of pharmaceutical products (including many high-cost drugs for treating cancer and serious illnesses).
From 2020 to August 2025, 41,188 patients received medical examination and treatment costs ranging from 500 million to over 2 billion VND from the Health Insurance Fund, totaling over 33,000 billion VND. A typical case is a patient in Vinh Long province whose medical expenses reached nearly 28 billion VND (main illnesses included: hereditary factor VIII deficiency; acute pharyngitis; open wounds of non-specific and other parts of the abdomen, etc.).
Therefore, people can rest assured that they can participate in and maintain their health insurance cards to receive health protection and care, without affecting their legitimate rights.
