Military Hospital 120 successfully applied percutaneous nephrolithotomy technique.

NDO - On May 26, Military Hospital 120 announced that it had collaborated with doctors from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City to successfully perform percutaneous nephrolithotomy on two patients. This is the first time the hospital has successfully applied this technique.

Accordingly, patient NTT, born in 1968, residing in Tan Thanh commune, Giong Trom district, Ben Tre province, was hospitalized with symptoms of unspecified renal colic. The CT scan results showed grade 1 hydronephrosis in the left kidney, a 13x20x17mm stone in the renal pelvis-ureter junction, and a 5x12x13mm stone in the lower calyx group.

Patient NVL, born in 1963, residing in Tan Long ward, My Tho city, Tien Giang province, was hospitalized with a diagnosis of kidney stones. The CT scan results showed that the right kidney had a stone measuring 37x29x24mm, the upper calyx group had several small stones with a diameter of 3-7mm, the upper pole parenchyma had a cyst with a diameter of 18mm, the left kidney had several stones with a diameter of 2-4mm.

After consultation, doctors from the Department of Urology ( Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital) and the team from Military Hospital 120 successfully applied percutaneous endoscopic lithotripsy technique to 2 patients at Military Hospital 120.

Specialist Doctor Do Anh Toan, Head of the Department of Urology, University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City (campus I), Head of the surgical team said: “The two surgeries were quite successful, the time to insert the needle to create a tunnel into the kidney was about 10 minutes, the time to crush the stone with laser energy was about 15 minutes; the X-ray image during the surgery showed that the stone was completely clean, then the wound was sutured. Each patient had surgery for about 45 minutes. After the surgery, the patient was stable”.

According to Lieutenant Colonel, Specialist Doctor 2, Director of Military Hospital 120 Nguyen Trung Kien, to perform this technique well, Military Hospital 120 has sent its doctors to train at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City on 10 patients before performing percutaneous nephrolithotomy for patients at the hospital. In the coming time, with the transfer of technology from the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital in Ho Chi Minh City, Military Hospital 120 will completely master this technique to serve patients.
